6 months on, ICDS centers remain locked in Langate, authorities in slumber

Kupwara, Feb 14: The residents of Langate area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district here have expressed resentment over the continuous closure of all the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) centers in the belt.
According to wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the locals said that the centre remained closed since August last year and that no employee has so far joined the duties since then.The ICDS has failed to make its centers functional in Lanagte belt for over 6 months, leaving the local populace to lurch at large, they said, adding that all the works which were meant to be followed through ICDS centres have come to a grinding halt.

MP Shamsher Singh Manhas, Sarpanches call on Lt Governor

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 14:  Shamsher Singh Manhas, Member of Parliament, today called on the Lieutenant Governor, Girish Chandra Murmu here at the Raj Bhavan.
The Lt Governor and  Manhas discussed about the developmental aspirations of people of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and various other issues relating to the public welfare.
Meanwhile, a public delegation from Bagwah area of Doda also called on the Lt Governor and apprised him of various developmental issues of their area.
The delegation comprising of Sarpanches, Hem Raj Thakur and Abdul Latief Naik submitted a memorandum of demands pertaining to the upgradation of Lower High School at Manjmi, enhancing of health facilities, strengthening road connectivity, augmentation of water and power supply, establishment of medical training institute, release of payment under PMAY-G, honorarium of VDC members, development of Tourism facilities, opening of fair price shop and Bank branch, renovation of Government buildings etc.
The Lt Governor assured the members of the delegation to review all the genuine issues and demands projected by them. He observed that the Government is making dedicated efforts for strengthening the Panchayats in J&K to ensure development at grass root level.

Instead of resolving our problem, a PDD officer provokes us for violence, allege Pakharpora locals

Budgam, Feb 14, : An officer from Power Development Department (PDD) instead of addressing the problems of the people is provoking them for violence, alleged locals from Pakharpora here in Cental Kashmir’s Budgam district. The locals from Mohandpora, Pakharpora told Kashmir News Trust that a Junior Engineer identified as Irfan Ahmed instead of listening to their grievances is displaying arrogance and asking them to stage protest and block roads against PDD. “This is ridiculous on part of the officer. We had informed him about the illegal power theft and asked him to take measures to curb it as this is the main cause of power woes that people are facing. This officer, instead of listening to us is provoking us for protests. We were shocked to listen from him that they can approach DC Budgam against him,” the locals said. Manzoor Ahmed, who was a part of the delegation, said that this officer is not people friendly. “When I asked to launch a drive against those who resort to illegal hooking, he advised me in a harsh tone that, I should ask DC Bugam about the menace. It is because of the illegal hooking and inaction on part of the department that we witness low voltage when PDD supplies power supply in the area for couple of hours,” he said.

SMC holds Revenue Week

Srinagar, Feb 14 : A press handout issued by Srinagar Municipal Corporation said hundrends of business establishments/ shops in different zones of the City were registered in the ongoing’ revenue week’.“The zonal revenue officers and ward officers were directed to identify the unauthorized shops and other business units in their respective zones during the week long programme, press statement said. “After providing forms and getting basic formalities done by the shopkeepers, SMC registered more than 100 shops on spot, said press release quoted Chief Revenue Officer SMC.Commissioner SMC Gazanfer Ali stated that such move will help to encourage people to come forward and bring in legality for all those unauthorized shops who are yet to get registered with SMC.He further appealed tall those unregistered business units including schools, shopkeepers, saloons etc to approach their concerned ward officers.

Grievance Redressal System made robust for addressing developmental lacunae, grievances redressal

JAMMU FEBRUARY 14: Advisor to LG K K Sharma today said that the Grievance Redressal System (GRS) has been made robust for prompt disposal of development issues and lacunae, besides fast pacing the development projects.
The Advisor was interacting with the deputations and individuals who had come for redressal of their grievances and issues during the public outreach programme conducted at Convention centre, Canal road here today.
As many as, 80 deputations and 185 individuals comprising 580 persons from different districts and divisions of the UT came for redressal of their issues.
Pahari Development Forum from Machail Kistwar raised the issue of link roads, up-gradation of existing electric infra, adequate health care facilities.
A deputation from Ward Number 61 Bohri Udyawala raised the issues of poor drainage network.
National Federation of Blind called for undertaking measures for up-gradation of blind school at Roopnagar. Besides, teachers appointed under RMSA called for extension of their services.
J&K Graduate Electrical Engineers Association raised several service related issues and called for creation of additional posts for their career progression.Deputation of J&K Cements Employees Association called for reimbursement of their salaries.
J&K Teachers Joint Action Committee demanded formulation of a comprehensive transfer policy, leave encashment for teachers, creation of Master grade posts in primary schools, inclusion of five years services rendered by ReTs in their service career.
A deputation of Jammu Kashmir Political Migrants Front raised several issues related to their residential accommodation and security.
Jammu Kashmir Teachers Forum called for creation of posts of Masters working as Head Teachers in SSA upgraded schools, immediate transfer of surplus staff, minimum wages for contingent paid workers CPWs, regularization of all class-IV employees and infra up gradation in elementary schools.
Meanwhile, Auqaf Committee Chandergam Pulwama demanded up-gradation of electric infra in their area.A deputation from Dansal led by Chairman, Block Development Council called for undertaking black topping of link roads besides undertaking work on new ones.Gram Development Committee Inderwal called for up-gradation of the existing schools, block topping of the roads, creation of tourism facilities and undertaking work on new PMGSY roads.Deputation of Block Dali Udhyanpur, Doda led by Chairperson, BDC called for construction of Degree College, ITI, hospitals and play ground in their block.

New grid station in Bandipora to be commissioned soon

Bandipora, Feb 14:The power crisis in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district would likely come to an end in last week of this month, as the Putushay, Bandipora grid station is all set to be commissioned this week.Talking to wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Shabaz Mirza said that the work over the said grid station is almost complete and the concerned Power Development Department (PDD) department are currently going ahead with the testing of transmission-line on next Thursday.He further said that the power shortage in Bandipora will come to an end soon after the transmission line is commissioned.As per details available with KNO, the said project has two components viz 50 MVA, 132/33 KV grid station and 132 KV D.C Transmission line.

Union Joint Secretary reviews progress of Centre of Excellence projects

NEW DELHI: Union Joint Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MIDH), Rajbir Singh today chaired a meeting to review the progress of various Centre of Excellence (COE) projects being taken under Indo Dutch Cooperation.
The meeting was attended by Mission Director (MIDH) J&K, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat who presented a detailed report of ongoing two COE projects for temperate fruits at Srinagar and one for sub-tropical fruits at Jammu. While presenting the current status of the projects, he assured the meeting that the projects shall be completed during the current fiscal.
The meeting was also attended by Counsellor Agriculture Siebe Schuur, Embassy of Kingdom of the Netherlands and Mission Directors from J&K, Karnataka, Kerela, Maharashtra, Punjab and other officers of Union Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare.
On the occasion, the Union Joint Secretary stressed on the officers to remain in touch with PUM experts of Netherlands and speedup the works so as to complete these projects within the stipulated time frame.

Saurabh Bhagat, Farooq Lone take stock of public grievances in Srinagar

SRINAGAR: Commissioner Secretary Labour and Employment Development, Saurabh Bhagat and Secretary, General Administration Department, Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone, took stock of peoples’ grievances during a day-long public grievance camp held here today.
During the programme, a large number of deputations and individuals from Srinagar, Budgam, Anantnag, Baramulla, Ganderbal, Kulgam, Pulwama, Shopian, Kupwara, Bandipora, Gurez and other areas of Kashmir region met the Administrative Secretaries and highlighted their issues and grievances.
Several service matter cases were also taken up during the camp wherein the deputations sought early redressal of their projected issues from the Government.
Administrative Secretaries gave a patient hearing to the deputations and individuals and assured them that all of their genuine issues and grievances would be looked into.
Deputy Labour Commissioner, Kashmir, Ahmad Hussain, ALC, Srinagar, Shiekh Murtaza, In-charge Labour Officer, Ansar Ahmad among others were also present during the day-long camp.

Enhance skill set for global competitiveness: Talat urges students

SRINAGAR: Secretary Higher Education, Talat Parvez today said that students should enhance and be imparted with required skill sets in order to enhance their global competitiveness.
The Secretary was speaking at a meeting here which he chaired to review the functioning of Higher Education scenario in Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting was attended by Deputy Secretary Higher Education, Sanjeev Rana and Principals and staff of government colleges of Kashmir region.
The meeting also discussed the concept of Leaning Outcomes Based Curriculum (LOCF) threadbare.
Speaking on the occasion, Talat Parvez said that LOCF will bring about major reforms needed to revamp the education sector of Jammu and Kashmir as the focus will be on skill-based education, inducing thinking capability and experiential learning.
He said that by LOCF students would be groomed in such a manner that they find a place for themselves in the ever-increasing competitive world.
While quoting the statistics he said that universities around India produce over one million young engineers and management graduates but only one third of them get employed due to the requisite skills required for the industries.
He urged upon the institution heads to work on outcome-driven learning system instead of an input-driven one. He maintained that a teacher should analyze what kind of aptitude students carry in order to impart right training to them.
The Secretary maintained that the situation can be tackled by roping in the training partners as many institutes in India have already started gearing up to this change.
He asked the principals to identify partners, who would be imparting right skills to students, to produce industry ready students.
He also emphasized the need to devise courses to increase market acceptability. He said that at present curriculum is purely theoretical and there is a need to revisit the curriculums and make it more practical, interesting and job oriented.
He said that there should be embedded programmes; add-on courses, certificate courses in addition to full time courses.
“A degree is not enough to guarantee the employability of graduates, some of the skills that employers look for in a candidate include communication, adaptability, listening, problem-solving, teamwork and creativity, so this should all be a part of student’s personality development, he added.
The Secretary maintained that modernization of infrastructure and laboratories has to be in tune with advancement of technology which provides students with a realistic picture of the job market beyond their college and university.

 

 

 

SNV machines being installed in 153 schools in Kupwara

KUPWARA: Under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner, Kupwara, Anshul Garg, a workshop was conducted today in the meeting hall of D.C. Office Complex regarding the use of Sanitary Napkin Vending (SNV) machines to be installed in 153 High Schools, Higher Secondary Schools and five Degree Colleges of the district.
The Assistant Commissioner Revenue, District Panchayat Officer, Chief Education Officer, Principals of High and Higher Secondary Schools and other concerned participated in the programme.
During the workshop, it was informed that under Swachh Bharat Mission – Grameen (SBMG) and Aspirational District Programme(ADP), Kupwara district is installing SNV machines in 153 schools and five colleges. The machines have been commissioned to minimize the school dropout rate of girl students.
Meanwhile, experts who had come from Delhi gave a detailed training to the participants about the handling of SNV machine.
