Shahid Choudhary bags National Award for Covid management

Hyderabad: Former Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar Dr Shahid Choudhary bagged national award for ‘outstanding’ efforts in Covid pandemic management during his tenure as Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar.

Dr Shahid Choudhary received the National Award 2020-21 conferred by Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, Ministry of Personnel, Government of India, for outstanding efforts in Covid-19 management as Deputy Commissioner.

The award carries a Gold Medal, Citation and Rs 2.00 Lakh cash.

The award was presented by Dr Jitendra Singh, MoS PMO and Ministry of Personnel in presence of K T Rama Rao, Minister for Urban Development, Industries & IT, Ajay Praskash, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and IT, Govt of India, Somesh Prakash, Chief Secretary, Telangana and V Srinivas, Secretary DARPG, Govt of India, at the 24th National Conference on e-Governance at Hyderabad.

Winter skiing camp of Biscoe, Mallinson: 3 students test positive, parents worried

Srinagar: At least three students have been tested positive for Covid-19 on day 12 of their winter skiing camp organized by biscoe-Mallinson institution.

On Saturday, the parents got an SMS, informing them that students will be back from 15 day Gulmarg camp and they need to receive them at school by 4pm. Despite, students were scheduled to be back on Monday as per scheduled. However, the sudden information from the school came as shocker to them.

Families being worried ,have alleged that school administration has done nothing enough to protect its students, Braving rains, parents held protest against school authorities for showing utter negligence with the health of students in particular.

“The school management needs to look out at the situation through the prism, if students have got positive reports, how they can not clear “such thing” with parents, scores of parents said.

“More than 2 students on camp are COVID positive, and that was a shocker,” said one of the parents.

Appealing the higher authorities to take cognizance of this act by the renowned school admin and cancel further skiing programmes, the parents have urged others to take precautions seriously amid spike in rising cases of Corona and Omicron. (CNS)

2 OGWs held in Doda

Jammu: In a major breakthrough, security forces apprehended two Over Ground Workers (OGWs) in two separate incidents in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials informed on Friday.

Defence sources here on Friday said that based on intelligence inputs, Army and Police nabbed one suspicious individual from Doda who was involved in planning the assassination of militants who had surrendered in the coming months and has been put in judicial custody in Bhaderwah jail.

The arrested individual has been identified as Farid Ahmed Naik of Doda and he was also in touch with few other apprehended militants in Jammu based Kot Balwal Jail who were using virtual numbers for communicating through WhatsApp.

Meanwhile in a separate incident, another OGW identified as as Ghulam Hussain of Gundna, Doda was arrested based on information received by the security forces.

“He was arrested for being in contact with Pakistan based militant handlers and providing them logistic support and information as well as for receiving money from Pakistan via Dubai,” sources said. (UNI)

Drone like object seized in Jammu

Jammu: Locals spotted a suspected drone from a plot in Pouni Chak area of Jammu city, officials told on Friday.

The suspected drone was spotted on late Thursday night by locals and accordingly the plot owner informed the police that a drone like object is lying in the plot.

Police rushed to the spot and took the possession of the drone like object.

“It’s a drone like object and we are investigation the matter,” said a police official. (KNT)

J&K’s UT Level Bankers’ Committee meeting held with

Public Sector Banks directed to increase footprints and improve lending to Priority Sector in UT of J&K

JAMMU: The Chief Secretary, Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta and Deputy Governor Reserve Bank of India, M. K. Jain today co- chaired the “Special Meeting of J&K UT Level Bankers’ Committee” to review the measures taken by banks in enhancing the flow of credit in UT of J&K.

Additional Chief Secretary, Finance Department, Chairman NABARD, Regional Director, Reserve Bank of India, MD & CEO J&K Bank, Director, DFS, MoF (GoI), and other senior functionaries of the Government, RBI, NABARD and banks joined the meeting which was held in virtual mode.

The Chief Secretary said that concerted efforts from all stakeholders should be aimed at developing Jammu and Kashmir as a model entity. He said that besides agriculture and horticulture sectors, there is huge potential in other sectors like Tourism, Hospitality, Food processing, Floriculture, IT Industry, Medical Tourism, Infrastructure & Real Estate, Hydropower, Film Sector, Handlooms and Handicrafts in the Union territory.

Dr. Mehta maintained that with the collective efforts of the Government and banks, the economy of J&K, which is presently at around Rs.1.80 Lac Crore, can be scaled up to Rs 3.60 Lac Crore within next five years.

Informing that digitization of land records in J&K has been completed and access to land records has been made available online, the Chief Secretary impressed upon banks to expedite lending by hassle-free and expeditious verification of records.

Dr. Mehta stated that J&K Government is committed to lower the un-employment rate in J&K to below 5% mark , and as such, directed banks to provide banking facilities in identified uncovered villages by 31st March 2022.

The Chief Secretary urged upon the Public Sector Banks to increase the credit activity in UT of J&K and assured them of all necessary support from the Government.

The Deputy Governor, RBI appreciated the role of J&K Bank in providing ease of access to banking services in the UT and urged upon other banks to increase their foot prints with focus on augmenting banking correspondent network besides scaling up credit activities in J&K. He directed banks to initiate dialogue for bringing in more Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) and Micro Financial Institutions (MFIs) to the Union territory for creating an environment of co-lending.

He directed banks to improve lending to priority sector and employment generation schemes meant for poverty alleviation and social upliftment. He urged upon the banks to make concerted efforts to achieve the targets set under the Annual Credit Plan. He stated that there is immense potential in agriculture and horticulture Sectors in J&K and banks need to initiate measures to tap the same.

While expressing satisfaction over the increase in CD Ratio of UT from 48.28% on March 2020 to 56.60% on November 2021, he stated expressed concern on the persistently low CD Ratio of Jammu region.

Deputy Governor, RBI impressed upon the banks and Industrial Associations to join hands for creating awareness on MSME schemes besides providing handholding to entrepreneurs to start their ventures.

While appreciating the efforts of NABARD for formulating five year development package of Rs.25,991 Crore for UT of J&K in consultation with Government of J&K, he stated that NABARD should continue to assist the Government in development of rural infrastructure in UT of J&K.

J&K gets top awards at 24th National Conference on e-Governance

JAMMU: In a significant achievement, the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir got national level awards for Covid-19 Management and Panchayat Development Index at the 24th National Conference on e-Governance held at Hyderabad today.

The awards were presented by Dr. Jitendra Singh, MoS PMO and Ministry of Personnel in presence of K T Rama Rao, Telangana’s Minister for Urban Development, Industries & IT; Ajay Prakash, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and IT, Govt of India, Somesh Prakash, Chief Secretary, Telangana and V Srinivas, Secretary DARPG, Government of India.

District Srinagar got first position in the category of Covid-19 management with effective use of technology.

The award was received by Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Secretary Tribal Affairs and then Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar under whose guidance several innovative and effective initiatives were taken by district administration for Covid-19 management.

Similarly, Bandipora district was conferred the award for innovative digital product ‘Panchayat Development Index (PDI)’ launched by the district administration.

The award was received by Dr Owais Ahmad, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Imtiyaz Ahmad, Joint Director Planning Bandipora and Mala Ram DIO Bandipora at the Conference.

Div Com reviews functioning of DRDO Hospital Jammu

‘500 bedded hospital fully equipped to handle any situation’

JAMMU: In view of the recent surge in covid -19 cases and to review the preparedness of dedicated covid hospitals, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr Raghav Langer today visited DRDO hospital Bhagwati Nagar and reviewed its functioning at a meeting with the concerned officers.

The Divisional Commissioner held a detailed review of the facilities, issues pertaining to medical oxygen, status of water, power supply, status of roads, staff strength etc.

The Medical Superintendent DRDO Hospital apprised the Divisional Commissioner that the hospital has all requisite staff, laboratories, wards and is fully prepared to fight any fresh covid wave.

Pertinently, the Government has dedicated DRDO Hospital as a facility for Covid patients and foreigner travellers tested positive are being admitted here. It was informed that at present there are 54 patients under treatment in the Hospital.

The Hospital also has a triage facility and patients from Chest Diseases Hospital Triage point are also being admitted in DRDO for further treatment.

The Div Com directed the District administration Jammu to establish isolation facilities for travellers. He directed ADC Jammu to   visit  Yatri Niwas and ensure that all requisite facilities are available for the attendants.

While reviewing water power supply to the hospital, it was informed that dedicated lines have been provided to the hospital for uninterrupted water and power supply.

Regarding the medical oxygen related issues, it was informed that the 500-bedded hospital has oxygen supported beds in both ICU and other wards. The Div Com directed for recheck of the oxygen flow of all the beds.

The chief Engineer MED informed that LMOs are fully functional and the work for suction line & AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator) has been allotted. The Div Com directed the Mechanical Engineering Department and hospital administration to ensure that both works get completed before January 31, 2022.

The hospital is fully equipped with ventilators, monitors, in-house pharmacy, diagnostic facility, X-Ray and a CT Scan machine has recently been commissioned.

It was further informed that the hospital has sufficient staff strength and 47 doctors have been deployed in the DRDO after a spike in cases.

The Div Com instructed the hospital authorities to project requisitions, if anything is required and be fully prepared to deal with the emerging situation.

Officials of DRDO, Medical Superintendent and Executive Engineer MED were also directed to do a test run with full load ie all 125 ventilators functioning simultaneously to check for any pressure drop.

The meeting was attended by Director Health, Administrative officer GMC, Commandant SDRF, ADC Jammu, Chief Engineer, MED; SP North, Medical Superintendent DRDO, technical staff of DRDO besides senior officers of Jal Shakti, JPDCL, PWD and other concerned officers.

JKSSB successfully culminates Shorthand test of Kashmir based candidates

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) today successfully culminated the Shorthand Test (Dictation & Transcription) of Kashmir based candidates for the posts of Jr. Scale Stenographer, Personal Assistant and Steno Typist who had recently qualified the type test/skill test.

The Shorthand Test was conducted in multiple batches at NIELIT Campus, Rangreth, Srinagar from 3rd January, 2022 to 6th January 2022.

The JKSSB had advertised 249 posts of Junior Scale Stenographer/Personal Assistant/Steno Typist of UT Cadre, Divisional Cadres and various Districts cadres under notifications.

A total of 11006 online application forms from 4105 candidates for these posts were received, out of which 1433 (780 Kashmir based and 654 Jammu based) candidates qualified type test/ skill test in the first phase of assessment for a multi stage recruitment process. Out of these 780 qualified Kashmir based candidates, only 638 candidates appeared in the shorthand test.

Further, the Shorthand Test (Dictation & Transcription) of 654 candidates of Jammu Division who qualified the computer-based type test/ skill test, shall be scheduled at NIELIT, New Campus, University of Jammu from 11th of January, 2022 onwards.

DG IMPARD reviews arrangements for conference on Good Governance

SRINAGAR: Director General, J&K Institute of Management, Public Administration and Rural Development (J&K IMPARD), Saurabh Bhagat, today chaired a virtual meeting to finalize arrangements for the forthcoming conference on Good Governance to be held on 22nd and 23rd of January 2022.

Director, State Motor Garages; Director, Hospitality and Protocol Department,   Director Training, J&K IMPARD, Jammu, Joint Director, Deputy Director and other concerned officers attended the meeting.

It was decided that IMPARD and General Administration Department (GAD) would maintain close liaison for smooth conduct of the conference.

Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha and Union MoS, PMO, Dr. Jitendra Singh besides Secretary, DARPG, GoI, V. Srinivas and Director General, National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG), would be attending the conference.

Missing minor girl from Jharkhand reunited with parents

JAMMU: A minor girl aged 15 years was found alone on railway station, Jammu by the child help desk.

Accordingly a diary entry was registered with the Railway Police Force and the girl was produced before the child welfare committee.

With the efforts of the child welfare committee, Jammu and District Child Protection Officer Jharkhand, the family of the girl was traced, today they reached Jammu and the custody of the girl was handed over to her parents after proper verification and legal formalities.

Giving the details of the case, Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee, Jammu, Shalini Sharma informed that the girl was found abandoned in Jammu by railway child Helpdesk on January 3, 2022. She was placed before CWC Jammu for shelter and rehabilitation. The girl was placed in govt. shelter home Jammu, Trikuta Nagar for short term stay till pending inquiry. The girl shared that she had left the house after an argument with her parents. After a counselling session, the girl shared the address and contact number of her family. The District Child Protection Officer Jharkhand was contacted who reached out to the family and further confirmed that the girl has been missing from her house since January 1, 2022 and the missing report is registered with Saria Thana, District Girdih, Jharkhand.

Earlier today, the parents of the girl along with the investigation officer of the case reached Jammu to take the girl back. The parents thanked the Child welfare Committee and district administration for their efforts.
