Jammu: General Officer Commanding (GOC) 9 Corps, Lieutenant General P N Ananthanarayanan Wednesday called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at the Raj Bhavan.

The GOC 9 Corps apprised the Lt Governor about the security situation in the area of their responsibility and discussed various important issues pertaining to it.

While interacting with the GOC, the Lt Governor said heightened alertness and synergy among various security agencies is imperative for effective response to any emergent situation.

The Lt Governor also said that the security forces are playing a crucial role for ensuring a safe and secure environment for the people of UT of Jammu Kashmir.

Major General Neeraj Gosain, GOC Tiger Division accompanied the GOC 9 Corps.

Meanwhile, Ritesh Sidhwani, Film Producer, Tejas Deoskar, Film Director, and the Excel Entertainment team, along with Arhan Bagati, Founder kyari.org met the Lt Governor and discussed their upcoming projects for promoting J&K as a film hub in the coming years.

The Lt Governor noted that with abundant scenic beauty and mesmerizing locations, J&K is the best destination for Film making. He extended his best wishes to the visiting delegation for their upcoming projects.

DGP chairs senior officers meeting at PHQ

Jammu: Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh Wednesday chaired senior officers meeting at Police Headquarters here to discuss the follow up of the recommendations of DGsP/IGsP conference 2021 and their implementation by various wings and zones of J&K Police.

The meeting was attended by Spl DGsP, R.R Swain, A. K. Choudhary, H. K. Lohia, ADGsP S. J. M. Gillani, Dr. S. D. Singh Jamwal, T. Namgyal, Mukesh Singh, M. K. Sinha, Danesh Rana, IGP CIV (PHQ) Alok Kumar, AIsG of PHQ. IGP Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar attended the meeting through video conferencing.

Speaking on the occasion, the DGP stressed for timely compliance of the directions issued by MHA with regard to the said conference. While discussing the installation of CCTV cameras and other technology driven policing aids and soldiers, he stressed for mission mode work on adopting new initiatives and technologies in dealing with CT operations, crimes and other security matters.

The DGP directed the officers for developing the system to harness benefits of technical infrastructure put in place. The DGP directed for increasing usage of various modules of the Inter-Operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS) for investigation and crime prevention.

With regard to Emergency Response Support System (ERSS), the DGP directed the nodal officers to take all the necessary initiatives to ensure integration of remaining helpline emergency numbers of different departments with ERSS setup as soon as possible in Jammu and Kashmir.

He directed to carry out the detailed analysis of all important police related incidents and develop them into case studies for making it an institutionalized learning mechanism and added that it will help in shaping the future policing. The DGP stressed for submitting regular updates of the elements involved in crimes of special nature.

During the meeting a detailed discussion was held on various recommendations of the previously held DGsP/IGsP conference. The DGP directed senior wing heads for preparing detailed reports on different policing issues so that implementation of the recommendations of the conference is ensured in a time bound manner.

Referring to the community policing the DGP emphasized on organizing increased police public meetings to further strengthen the Police-public ties. He directed for organizing sports competitions including adventure sports events in border villages to engage youth in positive activities.

The officers present in the meeting apprised the DGP regarding the measures taken to ensure the implementation of various initiatives and recommendations of the previously held DGsP/IGsP conference and directions of the Union Home Ministry in this regard.

Exen PDA arrested for accepting bribe: ACB

Srinagar: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday said that Executive Engineer, Pahalgam Development Authority Anantnag, for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 10,000 for passing the bill for balance payments.

“Anti Corruption Bureau received a complaint alleging that Muzzaffer Ahmed Dada, Executive Engineer, Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA), Anantnag is demanding bribe of rs 20,000 from complainant for passing bill for balance payments of complainant,” a spokesman of the ACB said.

”The complainants who is contractor by profession had done the work titled R.C.C Foot path foundation and Boundary Walls work of Amarnath Ji Yatra Track from Chandanwari to Pissotop in KM 01 to 03 in PDA,” he said, adding, “In his complaint, the complainant alleged that Muzzaffer Ahmad Dada, Executive Engineer, PDA is demanding bribe of Rs 20,000 from him for releasing amount of RS 8,044,72 for work done.”

Upon receiving the instant complaint, he said, prima facie offence U/S 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 was found made out. Consequently, he said, a case (FIR No. 04/2022) was registered at police station ACB Anantnag and investigation taken up.

“During the course of investigation, a trap team was constituted. The team caught Muzzaffer Ahmad Dada, Executive Engineer red handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 10,000 from complainant,” ACB said, adding, “He was arrested on the spot by the ACB team. The bribe money was also recovered from his possession in presence of independent witnesses.”

He said further investigations are going on.

Registering milk unit on fake documents: CBK files chargesheet

Srinagar: Crime Branch Kashmir (CBK) on Wednesday filed a charge-sheet in a case regarding registration of a milk unit with DIC and Sales Tax department on fake documents including PRC, rent deed and I-card.

A spokesman of the Crime Branch said that the case (FIR No:  04/2007) was registered in 2007 under section 419, 420, 423 468, 471, 120-B RPC and the charge sheet was filed before the Court of Passenger Tax and Electricity (PT&E) Srinagar today against accused Irfan Hussain Khan of Samkuchbal Khanyar Srinagar , Javed Salim Mir of Sikh Bagh Lal Bazar Srinagar and Zahoor Ahmad Lone of Nowpora Khanyar Srinagar for hatching  a criminal conspiracy, preparing and producing fake documents to register the Milk unit—M/S Aga Milk Products Burzuhama Hazratbal Srinagar.

He said Crime Branch Kashmir received a communication from Commissioner Commercial Taxes J&K, that one Akeel Hussain Misgar of Alamgari Bazar Srinagar has established a unit under the name and Style M/S Agha Milk Products Burzuhama Srinagar and got it registered with industries Department as SSI Unit.

“The said person in league with officials of concerned department got his unit capacity assessed on much higher side disproportionate to the infrastructure facilities with the intention to sell the quantity of assessed raw material (Dry Milk powder) in the open market to evade tax etc,” he said, adding, “On this count, case FIR No: 04/2007 U/S 419, 420, 468, 471, 120-B RPC was registered at Crime Branch Kashmir.”

During investigation, he said, it transpired that accused Irfan Hussain Khan with criminal intention had impersonated himself as Akeel Hussain Misgar of Alamgari Bazar Srinagar and succeeded in preparing fake documents—PRC, Rent Deed, I-Card and affidavit to establish a fake milk factory. “Another accused namely Javid Salim Mir intentionally and knowingly identified Irfan Hussain Khan in the court of law as Akeel Hussain Misgar and prepared a fake rent deed, in furtherance of a well knit criminal conspiracy,” the spokesman said.

Further, he said, the accused fraudulently managed preparation of fake documents and produced them in DIC and Sales Tax department for grant of registration for a SI Unit.

“As such, the Investigation established that no such milk products unit existed, while fake registration papers were prepared and tax exemption/other benefits were claimed on fake milk products factory by the accused.”

J&K logs 30 fresh Covid cases

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir reported 30 fresh Covid-19 cases while there was no death due to the virus in the last 24 hours, officials said on Wednesday.

They said two of the fresh cases were reported from Jammu Division and 28 from Kashmir Valley, taking the overall tally to 453720.

Giving district wise details, the officials said that Srinagar reported 24 cases, Baramulla 4, Budgam 0, Pulwama 0, Kupwara 0, Anantnag 0, Bandipora 0, Ganderbal 0, Kulgam 0, Shopian 0, Jammu 2, Udhampur 0, Rajouri 0, Doda 0, Kathua 0, Samba 0, Kishtwar 0, Poonch 0, Ramban 0 and Reasi 0.

There was no death reported in the last 24 hours, they said. So far 4750 persons have succumbed to the virus—2327 in Jammu and 2423 in Kashmir.

Besides, they said, 26 Covid-19 patients—one from Jammu and 25 from Valley— recovered during the time. So far 448824 people have recovered, leaving the active case tally at 146— 12 in Jammu and 134 in Kashmir.

They said there was no new confirmed case of mucormycosis (black fungus) reported today. So far 51 black fungus cases have been confirmed in J&K, the officials said. They also informed that 21471 doses of covid-19 vaccine were administered during the time in J&K. (GNS)

Ancient sculpture found from river Jhelum at Kakapora

Srinagar: An ancient sculpture dating back to 9th Century was recovered from river Jehlum in Kakapora area of Pulwama district on Wednesday.

An official said that some labourers were extracting sand in river Jehleum in Lelhara Kakapora area of Pulwama district and they found an ancient sculpture from the river.

He said that after finding the sculpture, they contacted the local police who rushed to the spot and took the sculpture into their possession.

“The sculpture made of black and green colour was later handed over to the Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums of Jammu and Kashmir,” they said.

Deputy Director Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums of Jammu and Kashmir, Mushtaq Ahmad said that it is a three headed Vaishno and a unique sculpture of the 9th century. “It is a green stone sculpture which is very rare and its art is highly decorated but its few parts are missing,” he said. Dr Mir Samiullah performs complex surgery

Srinagar: Renowned surgical Gastroenterologist, Dr Mir Samiullah has performed a complex surgery at Star Hospital Srinagar.

Hospital management said that a 65-year old patient from South Kashmir was admitted at Star Hospital under MRD number 11991 with complaints of not being able to swallow (dysphagia) was operated on for 8 long hours by renowned gastrointestinal surgeon Dr Mir Samiullah.

A massive tumor in the middle of the esophagus was removed and a new food pipe was created from a part of his stomach. This is considered one of the most challenging procedures in the field of gastrointestinal surgery.

The patient and attendants were extremely happy and jubilant about the procedure stating that they had been moving from pillar to post for a long time without getting any proper treatment till they landed at Star Hospital.

Dr Samiullah has pioneered the field of gastrointestinal surgery in the valley and has been doing such complex procedures continuously in past also.

Pertinently, Dr. Mir Samiullah has studied surgical gastroenterology at Kings College Hospital London.

Family falls unconscious after consuming ‘forest herbs’ in Handwara

Handwara, Mar 30: Almost a dozen members of a family fell unconscious while the condition of three of them remains critical after they allegedly consumed ‘forest herbs’ in Shirhama Mawar area of Handwara in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district, Officials said Wednesday.

Officials said that a family at Shirhama Mawar area consumed ‘forest herbs’ late last evening, following which a dozen members of the family fell unconscious.

The officials said that the neighbours shifted them to nearby hospital where from three of them were referred to SMHS hospital Srinagar for special treatment. “However the condition of three persons remains critical in the hospital all day,” they said.

They further said that prima facie it seems that the herbs (forest vegetables) they consumed were poisonous in nature. However, another official said that the condition of other family members is stable are they are under observation. (KNO)

AJ&KITI Employees Union bids adieu to its president

Srinagar: All Jammu and Kashmir Government ITI Employees Union on Wednesday held an extra ordinary farewell party in honour of Riyaz Ahmad Ahangar, President ITI Employees Union and EJAC leader on attaining his retirement on superannuation in recognition of his services for the cause of the employees.

Fayaz Ahmad Shabnam President EJAC was the chief guest in the impressive farewell party.

The farewell party among others was graced by the veteran leaders of the All J&K Government ITI Employees Union Muhammad Abbas and Farooq Ahmad Shah.

Besides, Muhammad Akber Khan President JKTF, Muhammad Shafi Rather, State Secretary JKTF, Showkat Ahmad Shastar Financial Secretary JKTF, Muhammad Shafi Wani, and other dignitaries and leaders of EJAC also attended the party.

Speaking on the occasion, EJAC President Fayaz Ahmad Shabnam acknowledged the role of the retiring President, Riyaz Ahmad in the cause of employees and said his services shall be remembered for a long time. The other leaders also praised his work and gave him best wishes.

Fayaz Ahmad Shabnam termed the retiring President as an honest and brave leader who always supported & worked for the welfare and betterment of the employees. The EJAC leaders and the participants wished him a very happy & prosperous post retirement life.

6 youth involved in stabbing incident at Badamwari held: Police

Srinagar: The district police Srinagar on Wednesday claimed to have arrested six persons involved in stabbing incident at Badamwari area of Rainawari.

A police spokesman in a statement said that on 28- 03-2022 in the evening hours, a scuffle broke out outside Badamwari between the two groups comprising of young boys, over a trivial issue, wherein at the beginning two boys had a small quarrel with each other and later on two groups took their sides.

“The fight ended in the stabbing of one boy resulting in serious injuries to him, while as other boy also sustained injuries in the incident. The injured were later on operated upon SMHS Karannagar and SKIMS Soura hospitals, respectively,” police said.

Those injured were identified as Tariq Ahmad Sheikh, son of Bashir Ahmad of Radpora Khaniyar and Arshad Ahmad Sheikh, son of Abdul Rashid Sheikh of Hamda Kadal Shiekh Colony Hawal.

In this context, a case under FIR number 19/2022 under section 307, 325,147,148 IPC stands registered in Police Station Rainawari, police said.

“Many suspects were apprehended for questioning. During questioning, six persons were prima-facie found to be involved in the commission of crime and have been arrested today,” police said.

Police identified the arrested persons as Danish Ahmad Sheikh, son of Mustaq Ahmad of Sheikh Colony Hawal, Farhan Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Nabi Mir of Kak Mohalla Nowhatta, Shahzib Altaf Ahangar, son of Muhammad Altaf of Gojwara Nowhatta, Arbaz Ahmad Bhat, son of Muhammad Altaf Bhat of Maqdoom Sahab Nowhatta, Tavqeer Sidiq Gojree, son of Muhammad Sidiq Gojree of Radpora Khaniyar and Waseem Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Ahmad Dar of Kakamohalla Nowhatta.

Other accused persons, who was part of either of the two groups, are being identified and will be arrested in due course, police said.
