All of the heavy snow and wind that has impacted so much of Kashmir over the past few days presented both a challenge and an opportunity for the people and institutions of this region to show what can be accomplished when they come together to help one another.
Within 24 hours, the PDD restored electric service to over 85% of customers affected by this weather event. More than a statistic, this accomplishment speaks to the dedication, commitment, and service that PDD employees represent.
While many anticipated a much longer loss of power, the response from the PDD has shown that by working together, the community can and will respond to the needs of the residents.
Despite extreme weather conditions, PDD crews restored electrical service in a quick manner to thousands of households, hospitals, and other essential services, giving these families warmth, security, and the ability to return to a normal routine.
The speed with which electric service was restored demonstrated the increased understanding of disaster response, infrastructure, and experience of resilience.
The dedication of PDD engineers and technicians to perform the necessary repairs to restore electric service during periods of extreme weather demonstrates that through hard work, dedication, and commitment, a crisis can be converted into a story of hope and trust.
The Department of Public Safety has refocused its priorities away from restoring the remaining service areas and is now working to restore some service areas completely, while also working to eliminate any outstanding vulnerabilities detected.
Today, however, is a day to celebrate how quickly and effectively we’ve shown that recovery is possible.
Given how frequently the media highlight issues and difficulties, let us use this opportunity to remind us all of the power of our Public Safety Department’s commitment to excellence and its unwavering resilience.
Supported by the unified efforts of the citizens of Kashmir, the Department of Public Safety is proud to demonstrate that, despite the challenges posed by the forces of nature, Kashmir will always persevere with courage and determination.
