A landmark achievement

In a historic development, Jammu and Kashmir may become the first State or Union Territory in the country to receive in-principle approval for its development under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)-IV, it would represent a permanent milestone in the district’s infrastructure development process.

J&K receives approval for the largest package under this scheme, 390 habitations (250 population or above eligible) will receive road connectivity.

The “big” scheme and project is a definite indicator of the Government of India’s determination to usher in progress, development, prosperity and connectivity for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

PMGSY-IV is not only about road construction, but also about diminishing gaps in geography and socio-economic bracket of the inhabited habitations.

By linking together far-off, lesser developed habitations, the scheme will generate opportunities for education, health, trade and tourism.

The scheme will enable farmers to reach their markets, students to get to school and medical provisions to reach farther into what those squatters needed. All of which will greatly improve the overall living standards of the rural people in J&K.

In addition, the significant infrastructure development proposed through PMGSY-IV, will create many jobs for local laborers, contractors, skilled and early stage workers, which will ultimately provide economic stimulations to this much needed gap.

Improved connectivity would enhance tourism, horticulture and handicraft industries therefore, create growth to J&K.

This decision marks a significant development where the principles of good governance, being supported by a focused approach to implementing developmental schemes in Jammu and Kashmir, actually work for people

The continuous good performance of the UT in airport projects proves that with conviction and resolve, any difficult terrain can be transformed into a thriving airport, and this is something other states should take as an example.

The approval of PMGSY-IV for Jammu and Kashmir is not just a policy win, but it is especially a chance for all those thousands who have been looking for improved connectivity, and reinforces the Government’s stand to ensure that all India is able to grow and flourish without leaving any region behind.
