Srinagar, Oct 21: Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Wednesday assured the kith and kin of Police martyrs that J&K Police will always stand by families of fallen heroes who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
According to the details, families of fallen police personnel remembered their loved ones on Police Commemoration Day as DGP Prabhat met them at the Armed Police Complex, Zewan, Srinagar, listened to their grievances and assured them that no injustice would be done to them.
The interaction brought the pain and concerns of bereaved families into focus, with the DGP Prabhat reaffirming the department’s responsibility to stand by those whose loved ones laid down their lives in the line of duty.
The DGP Prabhat, accompanied by senior officers, paid homage to the martyrs. The observance also included a blood donation camp, where the DGP and senior officers donated blood. The officers also listened to the grievances of the martyrs’ families and assured them of all possible support.
The occasion served as a reminder that while the sacrifice of a police-personnel is remembered by the force and the nation, their families continue to live with an irreplaceable personal loss.
The J&K Police paid special tribute to six personnel who laid down their lives between September 01, 2025 and August 30, 2026. They were Inspector Asrar ul Haq, Head Constable Ashaq Hussain, Selection Grade Constable Aijaz Afzal, Selection Grade Constable Mohammad Amin, Constable Amjid Ali and Constable Arshid Ahmad and Constable Javid Mansoor.
The force also remembered its 1,621 fallen heroes, reiterating that their courage, dedication and sacrifice would never be forgotten.
“Heroes Never Die!” the J&K Police said in its commemorative message.
Pertinently, Police Commemoration Day is observed every year on October 21 in memory of police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. The date marks the sacrifice of ten policemen martyred in an ambush by Chinese troops at Hot Springs, Ladakh, on October 21, 1959.
The day honours police martyrs across the country and recognises their contribution to public safety and national security.
The J&K Police, which traces its service to 1873, renewed its tribute to the fallen heroes and reiterated the importance of supporting their families. “Your sacrifice will never be forgotten,” the police said in its message to the martyrs. (KNO)
