Civil enclave expansion

With a planned investment of ₹ 1677 crores, Srinagar International Airport is rapidly growing and constructing a new global aviation hub at the airport. With the new construction of the airport will allow for a great increase in passenger yearly capacity and the overall growth of tourism and hospitality industries in Jammu and Kashmir.

As the main aerial access point to the Kashmir Valley, Srinagar has experienced substantial increases in air traffic on peak travel days and has been unable to handle the increasing number of passengers because of the lack of passenger facilities (weight) and because of a shortage of staff.

Srinagar Airport’s development is not only a substantial shift from the past limitations of airports throughout India, but it also aims to provide solutions to many of the problems currently facing travellers using the airport.

With the proposed expansion of the terminal area, there will be substantial relief from current spacing issues leading to better ticketing for passengers.

The new terminal expansion will not only provide current travel needs but will also provide an opportunity for travellers to experience the latest in facility and security technology.

The new apron area to be constructed, will accommodate up to fifteen aircraft at any time, and allow space for widebody jets in order for Srinagar to increase the number of new direct international flights operated from the Airport.

Finally, as part of a commitment to cultural sustainability, the design and planning for the new terminal have established environmental sustainability as a top priority. Some of the key features include the use of suitable construction materials that will be classified as “green,” and maximum available natural lighting through windows. The design of the new terminal will be coordinated to achieve an overall GRIHA 5-star standard for sustainability.

The government will enhance the existing passenger experience by providing world-class facilities for visitors arriving at Jammu Airport – thus achieving the same level of quality that they expect to find when they arrive to enjoy the natural splendour of the State of Jammu and Kashmir.

This major project will represent an investment of over Rs 1,677 crores and will provide world-class facilities to incoming visitors to make their visit to Jammu and Kashmir an exceptional, memorable experience.

This investment will create new job opportunities and develop a whole new range of additional economic development opportunities for the local community and define a whole new level of aviation standard in Jammu and Kashmir.
