Luminating homes

In the latest revelation, it has come to fore that nearly 4000 homes in different areas of south Kashmir will soon find their dark homes luminated with the brightness.

With the construction of a small hydro-power project of 3 Megawatts in Dessu Daksum area of Kokernag in Anantnag, the locals are been seeing in joy particularly those who used to witnesses hours of power curtailment in the months of winters.

The authorities deserves all the praises pertaining to introducing different power projects and other initiatives like Independent Power Producers (IPP) policy.

This project is very much an infrastructure initiative but more a hope bearer and a proof of the energy that is the lifeblood of our valleys.

It primarily is an power project but also a proof of torch bearer that supports our valley especially in the month of winters.

With this, the administration is just not constructing a power plant but also is building a bright, autonyms future for the residents of Kokernag and their neighbours.

Once in operation, this project will provide electricity to approximately 3,000-3,500 homes.

For many families in the area, this offers less uncertainty of power outages, and reliance on expensive, polluting, and less reliable solutions.

It means children can do homework with proper light, business owners can operate their businesses without fear, and lives will improve greatly for families.

Access to safe energy is a prerequisite to all economic activities and social progress. It means we will not have to jeopardize the natural heritage of the land for development.

In addition, there is already construction related activity that is supporting the local economy, and jobs for both unskilled and skilled workers.

Once operational, the power plant and ongoing maintenance will provide jobs, a sense of pride in the community, and knowledge in a new sector locally.
