With the onset of winters, the bone chilling cold has grappled Kashmir with frost. As the temperature continues to dip, the aged persons and minors are more prone to cold strokes.
The strokes in winters usually occur because of the intense cold weather conditions. The cold stroke is not necessarily caused because of low mercury only but also the fluctuating weather from cold to warm and vice versa. The polar vortexes and unexpected drop in jagged temperature, besides the hazard related to frosty exposure also plays an important role in cold strokes.
Across the country, Kashmir is known for having bone chilling winters from November end to March especially from the forty days after December-21 which are considered to be the harshest days of cold. Change in climate patterns unexpectedly adds a fuel to furry pertaining to cold strokes.
Doctors and the experts usually issue advisories and suggestions for the general public to evade the cold strokes.
During the months, elderly and minors are more prone to cold strokes because of the weak immune system.
There is a need to have a public health campaign before the commencement of winters wherein the concerned authorities and the health department of Jammu and Kashmir should focus on how the growing concern of cold strokes be reduced.
Prevention and alertness can play a major role in curbing the cold strokes. The aged persons and minors who are more prone to cold strokes must be equipped to safeguard themselves. Besides, the scientific and traditional suggestions and practices shall be adopted to prevent the strokes.
The general public, especially the elderly and minors shall limit exposure. Besides, they need to avoid staying outdoors for a long. In order to evade the cold strokes, they shall keep their body warm. The indoor exercise can also help them in preventing cold strokes.
