The administration in Kashmir is gearing up for the upcoming winter season. On Monday, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole, convened a meeting to review winter preparedness by departments across the Valley.
The divisional administration has gone into preparation mode well in advance as weather can turn inclement at any point of time. For the past few years, Kashmir has received snowfall in November itself. The experts are of the opinion that the winter season in the Valley has advanced and the people should be prepared to handle the weather vagaries well before time.
The administration has to play a vital role in ensuring that people don’t face any hardships in difficult winter days. The essentials have to be stocked in advance. The officers have to make sure that in case of the closure of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway stocks don’t run out.
During the past few years the Power Development Department has done a commendable job. The department hasn’t allowed Kashmir to plunge into darkness even during the heavy snowfall and this year too people are expecting that the PDD would repeat its performance.
The R&B and MED departments have acquired sophisticated machinery for the snow clearance and one hopes that it would be put in use and the obsolete and outdated machinery is done away with.
Winter is an integral part of Kashmir. It’s up to the administration to make the lives of the people easier by providing them with the requitste facilities. The divisional administration in Kashmir has already gone into the preparation mode but it needs to ensure that the plans that are being chalked out are implemented when the need arises.
By starting the advance preparations the administration has sent a message to people that it’s aware of their needs and is there to help them out. It’s a welcome initiative and is an indication that the administration wants to make sure that system keeps on working even in difficult conditions.
People too have started making preparations by stocking the items that are needed to fight the harsh climatic conditions. Winter is knocking at the door and it can announce its arrival anytime. Upper reaches of Gulmarg and Mughal Road have already received this season’s first snowfall and temperature has also started plummeting in Kashmir. Winter is not that far and chill is all set to arrive.
Winter Not That Far
