Dal Lake becomes garbage dumping site

Srinagar: Lakes and Water bodies Development Authority (LAWDA) has failed to stop dumping of wood-savings and see-saw garbage into the prestigious Dal Lake, raising eyebrows from locals.

Piles of see saw-dust and garbage could be seen on road between Saida Kadal and Ashai bagh and other interior areas of the Dal Lake with officials unmoved and no action has been initiated against the offenders.

A group of locals said at Saidakadal accused LAWDA of taking sides of the defaulters. Despite repeated pleas to the authority they have turned deaf ears to our demands, they said.

Mohammad Younis, a local said that that LAWDA is aware of each and everything but they have become mute spectator on the issue.

“In no construction zone one can see new constructions coming up every other day. It’s nothing else but corruption and vote bank politics,” he said.

“At the same time corrupt officials to be exposed to civil society who should be aware how to take care of them, it is local populace to play the role as it concerns them most,” he said.
