Srinagar, Aug 18: The Jamia Masjid Srinagar was thrown open for prayers on Tuesday after 150 days of lockdown due to coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The devotees offered Zuhr (afternoon) prayers in the Masjid for the first time after the religious places were thrown open by the administration.
The decision by Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid was taken while upholding the views of Shariah experts and following the guidelines issued by the medical bodies regarding the outbreak.
The Auqaf Jamia Masjid had put in place all the SOPs and other preventive measures including providing free masks to the devotees visiting Jamia Masjid to offer the prayers.
Hundreds of men and women offered the congregational Zuhr prayers while maintaining social distance.
On the occasion, the people expressed strong anger and resentment over the blasphemous remarks against the beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) demanded stringent punishment to the culprits.
According to the Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid, along with the five-time daily prayers, the congregational Friday prayers will also resume at Jama Masjid with all SOPs and other preventive measures in place.

Srinagar, Aug 18: Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (BOSE) on Tuesday said the question papers for annual regular examinations of secondary and higher secondary standard will be set from the whole prescribed syllabus and the students will have to attempt only 70 per cent marks.
The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (BOSE) also said that the examinations of both secondary and higher secondary classes will be held in the month of November.
The BOSE in a notification said, “In view of prevailing COVID-19 Pandemic, the students of classes 10th, 11th and 12th annual regular appearing in the forthcoming examinations likely to be held in the month of November 2020 in Kashmir division, winter zone areas of Jammu division and March 2021 for summer zone areas of Jammu division, as a one time measure.”
BOSE said that the students appearing in these examinations shall have to attempt only 70 per cent marks from the question papers, which shall be treated as 100 per cent at the time of evaluation.
“The score of students attempting less than 70 per cent from the question paper shall be raised proportionately,” it reads.
In a notification, it was also stated that the question papers will be set from the entire syllabus prescribed for the session.
However, the student has to attempt only 70 per cent questions instead of attempting all the questions; thus, there is a resultant concession of 30 per cent.
“For the students appearing in subjects having no practical courses, the question paper is of 100 marks and the student has to attempt questions with a total of 70 marks,” it reads.
The BOSE notification further reads, “For all such subjects which have both theory and practical components the concession will apply to theory part only that includes Physics, Chemistry and Biology that have a practical component of 30 marks and theory question paper of 70 marks, the students shall attempt 49 marks (70 percent of 70 marks only), which will be raised to 100 percent i.e. 70 marks.” (KNO)
Police monitoring social networking sites

Srinagar, Aug 18: The Jammu and Kashmir Police Tuesday said that it is monitoring all the social networking sites and are collecting details of such people who are participating in spreading wrong information.
The police also maintained that it was taking action against those who were spreading rumours.
“We have clear orders to collect details of all such people who are participating in spreading wrong information in the Union territory,” one of the top police officials told news agency KINS wishing not to be named.
He said police have managed to control rumor mongering in the valley. “In the past miscreants were using social media to spread rumours and instigate people, however after strict measures the police have managed to curb on rumor mongering”.
The official said that cases of hooliganism and mischievous elements creating disturbances were reported from certain areas but were dealt with by security agencies.
He said the rumour mongers now feel fear that if they post anything on social media, they will be charged.
“Whatever is happening in social media, police is well aware of that. Our message is clear that if anybody tries to spread a rumor or indulge in any other illegal activity the legal action will be taken,” he warned.
He said to prevent misuse of social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, Kashmir Cyber Police had already registered several cases.
“The cases were lodged on the basis of continuous reports we were receiving on the misuse of social media, who defied the government orders and misused the social media platforms to create trouble in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said. (KINS)
Admin starts fortnightly interactive session with youth in Pulwama

Pulwama, Aug 18: In order to have a first-hand account of larger issues affecting life and getting acquainted with the aspirations of youth and students, district administration Pulwama has started a novel initiative of having an informal fortnightly interactive session with the youth and students of the district.
In its first session hosted today here at DC office complex, scores of students interacted with the Deputy Commissioner and expressed their opinions related to a wide range of issues in an informal atmosphere.
While hosting the tea party, Deputy Commissioner Raghav Langer said that this interaction will be a regular feature in the district every fortnight as part of the initiative of district administration to engage with youth and students of the district, to know about their interest areas, various concerns and seek their views on plethora of issues pertaining to today’s young generation.
He said a platform is being provided to students where they can discuss wider issues pertaining to life and society in an informal way.
“This fortnightly meeting will also serve the purpose of apprising the young generation regarding various initiatives taken by the Govt for their benefit,” he said.
Advisor Bhatnagar meets delegations, individuals as part of public outreach

Srinagar, Aug 18: As part of the strengthening of grievance redressal mechanism, Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar Tuesday met several delegations and individuals at Civil Secretariat here who apprised him of their issues and demands besides seeking an early resolution for the same.
A deputation of Employees Union of Road Transport Corporation raised several issues regarding salary, DPC and others before the Advisor. They demanded early release of their pending salaries besides early resolution of their pending matters.
Another deputation of the Diploma Engineers Association demanded career advancement progress as well as pending promotional benefits at the earliest.
A deputation from Mujgund raised the issue of construction of road and drinking water before the Advisor. They sought immediate redressal of these issues and other developmental concerns.
Similarly, a deputation of the Unemployed Veterinary Doctors Association raised several issues before the Advisor. They demanded creation of posts of Dental Surgeons at the earliest.
Another deputation from Ranger, Chadoora raised several developmental issues before the Advisor. They demanded fencing of graveyards besides timely completion of other ongoing works.
Besides these delegations, dozens of individuals from Srinagar, Reasi, Budgam, Pulwama, Anantnag and other areas also met the Advisor and flagged their issues and grievances before the Advisor and sought early redressal for the same.
The Advisor listened to each of them patiently and assured them that all of their genuine demands will be redressed on priority while several grievances were sent on spot to the relevant departments for their early resolution.
Newly recruited militant arrested in Shopian

Srinagar, Aug 18: A newly recruited militant of Al-Badr was arrested by a naka party in Sugan area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday.
A police official said an active militant of Al-Badr was arrested at a naka near Draggad Sugan village of Shopian.
He was arrested by Army’s 44 RR, CRPF’s 178 Bn and Shopian police.
The official identified the arrested militant as Hilal Ahmad Sheikh, son of Mohammad Ahsan Sheikh of Maldera Shopian who was missing for the last few days.
He said a case has been registered in this regard and further investigation is going on. (KNO)
Advisor Khan visits juvenile observation home

Srinagar, Aug 18: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan, Tuesday visited Juvenile Observation Home, Harwan and inspected various facilities and services being provided to the Juvenile inmates there.
The Advisor was accompanied by Mission Director, ICPS, Shabnam Kamili and other senior officers of the department.
Khan took a detailed round of the centre and inspected the different facilities and services present for the Juveniles there. The Advisor also inspected the medical care facility there and directed the concerned officers to keep adequate stock of medical supplies available besides other medical equipments.
He also interacted with the Juvenile inmates of the Observation Home and said that positive changes are visible in the attitude of the inmates. He stressed upon the officials to provide all necessary help and facilities to the Juveniles.
During the visit, Mission Director, ICPS briefed the Advisor about the functioning of the observation home. She gave a detailed account of the activities and other facilities available at the centre and requested for educational facility, short term skill development courses and playground for recreational activities of the inmates.
North campus KU gets Covid Warrior Award

Srinagar, Aug 18: District administration, Baramulla while recognizing the contribution of North Campus, University of Kashmir in the fight against COVID-19 has awarded the campus with Covid Warrior Award, which was received by Director of the Campus on Independence Day from District Development Commissioner, Baramulla in presence of DIG & SSP of the district.
North Campus, University of Kashmir, has been working with District Administration, Baramulla towards mitigation and management of Covid-19 pandemic that has hit the valley since March 2020.
In this connection, two hostels of the Campus have been converted into quarantine and isolation centers for the patients affected by the pandemic. The staff of the Campus has been rendering untiring duties at the said centers with full dedication.
Land survey in JK to be done through CORS system
FC Revenue asks officers to expedite completion of Jamabandies of left out villages, issue domiciles in a day

Budgam, Aug 18 Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir will be the first among states/UTs in the country where survey of land will be done through CORS System ensuring complete error free digitization of Jamabandies reducing chances of disputes.
Financial Commissioner Revenue, Dr Pawan Kotwal, informed this in a meeting convened here today in this regard.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Shahbaz Ahmed Mirza, ADC, SDMs, Tehsildars, Naib Tehsildars and other concerned revenue officials.
Financial Commissioner directed the concerned revenue authorities to pace up the process of completing left out Jamabandies on war footing. Hence on there shall be a target of an average of 25 khatas per day besides their shall be khata wise detail available on daily basis through concerned DESO.
Financial Commissioner said from now on we are going to carry out survey/measurements of the land and its record digitized which is possible when Jamabandies are fully completed. He asked all revenue authorities to remain vigilant as within next 15 days we are going to install the CORS system and there will be 20 such installations in the whole UT. The readings and information relating to survey of the land will be accurate up to 5 cm radius. The system will calculate radius of any Khata itself, this new technology supported system will enhance capacity and capability to the extent that in just one hour you will be able to do survey of up to 5 Khatas.
On domicile, Financial Commissioner emphasized that all applications shall be disposed of instantly within one day and their shall be no pendency beyond 15 days and any laxity on their part will be dealt with seriously.
Intending Hajj pilgrims asked to collect passports

Srinagar, Aug 18: Intending pilgrims of Hajj 2020, Kashmir division have been informed to collect their passports from their respective Deputy Commissioners office as per the notified schedule.
However, the pilgrims of district Srinagar shall collect their passports from Hajj House Bemina strictly as per schedule.
It shall be noted that the passports shall only be handed over to the concerned Intending Pilgrims after producing the receipt received at the time of deposition of the Passports.
