Srinagar, July 4: Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Friday directed security agencies to intensify surveillance and night domination exercises along the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra routes, enforce strict RFID-based verification of pilgrims and ensure that only registered devotees are allowed to undertake the pilgrimage.
The directions were issued during a Union Territory-wide security review meeting chaired by the DGP at the Police Control Room, Kashmir, to assess security and logistical arrangements for the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.
The meeting was attended by senior officers of the J&K Police, Army, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), Traffic Police, Railway Police, intelligence agencies and other security organisations, including the GOC 15 Corps, Special DG Coordination J&K, ADGP CID, ADG CRPF, IGPs of Kashmir, Jammu, Security, Railways, Traffic and CID, besides senior officers of the BSF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB, CISF, RPF and district police.

The DGP directed all agencies to maintain the highest level of operational preparedness, with seamless inter-agency coordination and intensified area and night domination exercises, particularly along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, critical road corridors and the Yatra routes. He also instructed field formations to enhance surveillance and maintain a close watch on inimical elements across Jammu and Kashmir to prevent any attempt to disrupt peace.
Prabhat directed officers to ensure strict verification of identity credentials and effective use of the RFID-based tracking system for real-time monitoring of registered pilgrims. He said issues relating to unregistered yatris should be handled proactively and humanely in coordination with the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board, while ensuring that only duly registered pilgrims are permitted to undertake the Yatra in accordance with prescribed protocols.
Reviewing disaster preparedness, the DGP instructed all agencies to keep contingency plans and adequate resources in readiness to respond effectively to weather-related disruptions, including timely evacuation, shelter, medical assistance and other essential support. He also emphasised robust security and seamless assistance for both tourists and pilgrims across the Union Territory.
Stressing professionalism and public service, Prabhat directed officers to remain accessible, responsive and people-friendly, ensuring prompt assistance to pilgrims whenever required.
He expressed confidence that coordinated efforts, heightened vigilance and close synergy among all stakeholders would ensure the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026 continues to be conducted safely, peacefully and successfully.
