BSF detects tunnel on IB in Samba sector

Jammu, Nov 22: Days after four Jaish-e-Mohammad militants were killed in an encounter with forces in Nagrota area of Jammu, a tunnel has been detected along the international border in Samba sector of Jammu region on Sunday.

Official sources here said that a Tunnel was found on the International border (IB) area of District Samba during a search operation in the area.

“After the Nagrota encounter near Ban Toll in which four Pakistani militants were killed and a huge cache of arms and ammunition recovered, questions were raised about the infiltration and how the militants reached the national highway,” Director General of Police Dilbag Singh told reporters at the tunnel site.

He said that after developing intelligence inputs, a search operation was carried out along the border and the tunnel was detected which is just few metres away from the Pakistan.

“The opening of the tunnel is towards the Pakistani side and the militants it seems used this route to infiltrate,” the J&K Police Chief said.

Meanwhile IG BSF Jammu Frontier, N S Jamwal said that the militants made use of technology to carry out their infiltration.

“It seems militants involved in the Nagrotra encounter used this 30-40 metre long tunnel as it appears to be new one,” said the IG adding, “we believe they had a guide who took them till the highway.”

IG Jammu Zone Mukesh Singh was also present at the spot.

Centre allows post-grad Ayurveda docs to train in performing surgeries

0

New Delhi, Nov 22: The government has issued a notification authorising post-graduate practitioners in specified streams of Ayurveda to be trained to perform surgical procedures such as excisions of benign tumours, nasal and cataract surgeries, a move which has drawn flak from the modern medicine fraternity.

The November 20 gazette notification by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), a statutory body under the AYUSH Ministry to regulate the Indian systems of medicine, listed 39 general surgery procedures and around 19 procedures involving the eye, ear, nose and throat by amending the Indian Medicine Central Council (Post Graduate Ayurveda Education) Regulations, 2016.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA), the largest body of modern medicine doctors, has condemned the move, describing it as “poaching the disciplines of modern medicine through back door means” and a “retrograde step of mixing the systems”.

Different Phases, One Lesson

New Delhi is in the middle of a serious public health crisis due to covid-19 pandemic. The national capital after surge in cases during the first phase showed how to sail through. However fresh wave has happened amidst a predictable set of factors with winter being more hospitable for the contagion, mass interactions due to festivals and reckless behaviour on the part of people, either due to fatigue or complacency, testing tilted towards the antigen tests rather than the more reliable RT-PCR mechanism. There was least concern towards tracking and isolating cases. All this has led to a spike in the cases. In the first phase, Delhi showed how it was good to be prepared. The Union Territory had surpassed Mumbai as the Indian city with the highest number of novel coronovirus cases. It recorded in excess of 2,000 cases daily for more than five weeks in June and July. At one time, the local government apprehended caseload would cross 5 lakh by the end of July and there were fears of the healthcare system being overwhelmed by the surging virus. Then the government ramped up testing and bolstered the medical infrastructure. The measures paid off as there was an appreciable fall in the daily caseload in the two weeks that followed. However present phase showed that recklessness and go by to the set of procedures can bring the situation back to square one. Rather it can worsen the situation as the virus is far from being overcome.
The situation has reached a stage that the government is considering imposing selective restrictions. The lockdowns are blunt instruments that should not be the first line of response in a public health emergency. They were necessary to check the transmission of the virus during the early days of the pandemic when very little was known about the pestilence. The measures have unleashed a collateral tragedy that continues to take a high toll more than four months after the easing of the lockdown.
The latest surge in Delhi is another indicator of the unpredictable ways of the coronavirus and how it can hit hard. The present time is different from what was at the beginning. The governments are better equipped to deal with the virus, both in terms of scientific knowledge and medical capabilities. The government of Jammu and Kashmir and people need to learn lessons to ensure that lives and livelihoods remained protected and vulnerable do not become victims.

Former J&K CM Azad only missing link in PAGD

Afaq Bhat
Srinagar, Nov 20: Complexion of politics stands changed in the newly carved out Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Political parties which used to aim high in the erstwhile State are today keen on making their presence felt by contesting the District Development Council (DDC) elections.
An analyst while talking to Precious Kashmir said, “The mainstream parties in the Valley till August 5, 2019, used to only talk about assembly and parliamentary elections and other polls were not even considered as elections.”
He said, “Now, the times have changed the DDC elections have become some important that Kashmir based parties have joined hands and formed an alliance to contest these polls.”
The analyst said, “These elections are important for the regional parties to make their presence felt and make a comeback. After August 5, 2019, most of the people had written these parties off.”
It’s in place to mention here that the Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) led by Dr Farooq Abdullah comprises of Peoples Democratic Party, Peoples Conference, Awami National Conference, CPI and CPI (M). The top mainstream leaders of Kashmir have come together to test the waters. The Congress Party despite not being a part of the PAGD has entered into a seat sharing agreement with the alliance.
An observer said, “All the top leaders have come together but the biggest missing link is the former J&K chief minister and senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad. He has not shown any interest either in PAGD or the political activities taking place in Jammu and Kashmir. Him remaining aloof has raised many questions.”
It may be recalled that Azad along with many other Congress leaders was dropped from the list of national office bearers of the party earlier this year after him and 20 others had written a letter to the Congress top brass to seek change in party leadership.
After the that development he had even offered to resign from the Congress Party. However, after that All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi side lined the leaders who had apparently raised the banner of revolt against the Gandhi family. Since that day Azad has taken a back seat and has stayed away from the active politics at national level as well as in Jammu and Kashmir.
A politician said, “During the past one year many things have changed and so has the political scenario. The politicians, who used to call shots in the past, are struggling hard to remain relevant but they are putting in best possible efforts to do so. Azad’s absence is being felt but it seems he is staying away due to him being side lined.”

People will teach PAGD a lesson: Naqvi

‘Dynasts plundered J&K resources for last 70 years, will have to pay back’

Srinagar, Nov 20: Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi Friday said that the “Gupkar Declaration” will prove to be a “Death Declaration for Destructive and Dynasty Politics” in Jammu and Kashmir and people will teach them a lesson in the forthcoming DDC elections.

According to KNO the union minister said that the motive behind conducting DDC elections is that there should be people’s participation in the political process, however, some leaders were trying to mislead common people and were becoming a hurdle in the political and democratic process.

He said that these leaders have earlier decided not to contest the elections but when they saw the common people taking part in these elections they came up with the alliance called “Gupkar Declaration” which will prove to be a “Death Declaration for Dynasty and Destructive Politics” in Jammu and Kashmir.

“For how long this dynasty ego will run, one day it will have to crumble and people will make this dynasty ego crumble. This ‘Khandani Garoor and Pandani Suroor’ will not last long,” he said.

Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi was addressing a convention of Bharatiya Janata Party workers in Balhama area in the outskirts of Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that for the last 70 years, the funds which had been coming to Jammu and Kashmir for development have been looted by these dynasty leaders. “Even if only half of those funds would have been utilized for the development here, the roads would have been made of silver and gold in Jammu and Kashmir but these leaders built bungalows for themselves in every nook and corner of the world.”

He said that they will have to pay back every penny they have looted over the past 70 years even if they make many more alliances’ like this. He also said that the motive of conducting DDC elections in Jammu and Kashmir is that every citizen of the UT will take part in the political process.

“There was no need to conduct elections after the abrogation of Article 370 but it was decided to conduct these elections with the sole motive of people’s participation in the political process in Jammu and Kashmir.”

He said that they would have run the affairs of Jammu and Kashmir like Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti did in the past, however, they wanted common people to participate in the political process and when there is people’s participation in the political process, there will be people’s participation in development, prosperity and progress.

Talking to the reporters on the sidelines of the function, he said that when people will participate in the political process in Jammu and Kashmir that will be a guarantee for the development, progress and prosperity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“Those who were trying to become a hurdle in taking part in the political and democratic process, their motives are being crumbled and those who have looted Jammu and Kashmir will have to pay back every penny.”

He also said that this alliance is not for elections, they have come up with the alliance only to save themselves because they know they have done wrong and they will have to pay for their wrongdoings—(KNO)

Article 370 can never be restored: Shahnawaz Hussain

Srinagar, Nov 20: Former Union Minister and National spokesperson of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Syed Shahnawaz Hussain on Friday said that the Article 370 can never be restored in Jammu and Kashmir, adding that the ‘Gupkar Gang’ is deceiving people by making promises over its restoration.

Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, Hussain, who was appointed as Kashmir Incharge for the forthcoming polls, told media persons that the atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir has changed following the abrogation of Article 370 last year.

“We are concerned about the people of Jammu and Kashmir and will ensure the development, which is the right of people and will be given to them. The J&K will see a new dawn of development and for which the work has already been started,” he said, adding that many projects couldn’t be started here due to the outbreak of COVID-19, but would be started soon.

Hussain, who is visiting the Valley for the first time after Article 370 abrogation last year, said that like other parts of the country, J&K will also witness similar development, which is the desire of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He stated that previous regimes in Jammu and Kashmir especially National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party have always thought about their families and relatives and left the people to lurch at large.

“We (BJP) are against the family rule and never give preference to our families. We do whatever we speak. In J&K, if you see most of the leaders are there who have a family background as they didn’t allow people to grow, but we never focus on our families only.”

He said that the ‘Gupkar Gang’ has accepted the decision taken on August 05 last year as they are taking part in the elections now. “Farooq, one of the members, always uses different languages in Delhi and Srinagar,” he said.

“Unlike these parties, BJP has been giving pen into the hands of the people and want them to write their future by their own hands,” he said, adding that the leaders in Jammu and Kashmir are deceiving people by making false promises, saying that there is no iota of doubt that Article 370 can’t be restored.

“One who has died and was put into the grave cannot come alive again and same is the case with Article 370, which has gone and can never be restored and the ‘Gupkar Gang’ is telling a big lie that it will be restored,” he said.

“The dreams being shown by Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti can never come true. These are the same leaders who were claiming that Article 370 cannot be scrapped and even stated that nobody in J&K will raise tri-colour in their hands if it is scrapped. However, the people are now raising tri-colour without any objection,” Hassan said, who is on a 4-day visit to Kashmir.

He said that Jammu and Kashmir is in the heart of PM Modi and he wants to develop it like other parts of the country, adding that J&K has the capability to give employment not only to the people here but to the outsiders as well.

“Jammu and Kashmir can become the hub of tourism, but people here chose terrorism. They (people) have tried the other parties and they should now try BJP.”

He said that J&K has the world’s best tourism destinations, which will be boosted. “We will not compare it with any other destinations, but will ensure that tourism is boosted here,” he said.

“If you see everything has changed. There is no violence and other related things in J&K,” he said, adding that people here love PM Modi like they loved Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Lashing out at what he termed as the ‘Gupkar Gang’, the former Union Minister said that this gang is the combination of the same parties who turned J&K heaven into hell. “These are the leaders who used to salute the tri-colour and even made remarks like chocolate and Milk,” he said.

He said the ‘Gang’ has always betrayed the people of J&K and have done politics on the blood of J&K. “They have done many wrongdoings,” he said.

Asked about the ‘eviction of nomads’, he said that nobody can snatch the lands of J&K people, adding that this is only a propaganda, saying that the laws have already been implemented in J&K and there was nothing to speak more in this regard. “The rights of the Gujjar & Bakerwal community will always be taken care of,” he added.

About the polls, Hussain said that he has arrived here to bloom the lotus like other parts of the country, adding that the party will seek votes on the name of development and “you will see lotus blooming in many parts of Kashmir.”

About Congress in PAGD, he said that the party is scared of PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah as soon after Shah’s tweeted about Congress, they withdrew their support from PAGD. “Congress has been exposed,” he said.

He added that Congress has no guarantee of winning but Modi has. “Nobody can defeat Rahul in losing the contests. We have no opponent as we are with the development only,” he said—(KNO)
