Acute shortage of vitamin drops for children makes poor parents suffer

Have sent requisition to MSCL, will get supply in next few days: MS

By: Aabid Hameed

Srinagar: The Maternity and Child Care Hospital (MCCH) in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district is facing an acute shortage of vitamin drops since last one month, thus simultaneously forcing the parents, who bring their children to the health facility, to visit the private clinics.

Many parents while talking to Precious Kashmir said that they are visiting to the hospital to administer the vitamin drops to their babies but every time they have to return back as the health faculty is facing a shortage of the drops.

Irhan Ahmad, one of the parents, said that on Wednesday he visited to hospital to administer vitamin drops to his baby, who is two years now, but had to return back without getting the drops as he was informed that the vitamin drops are not available.

He said that he was informed by another parent there that he has been visiting to the hospital since last 45 days but no vitamin drops are available at the hospital.

Irhan said that some staff members also informed him about the shortage of vitamin drops at the hospital since last one month at least, adding that there are many poor patients who are forced to visit the private clinics to get the vitamin vials for their children.

Meanwhile, the parents urged authorities to look into the matter at an earliest and ensure that the vitamin drops are available.

A child specialist said that vitamin drops are of vital importance as it helps and support normal growth and development of  child’s bones (vitamin D), maintenance of normal vision (vitamin A), help and support child’s immune system (vitamin D), helps in reducing fatigue and tiredness (folic acid and B12) and increases iron absorption (Vitamin C).

Meanwhile, Incharge Medical Superintendent Dr Mohammad Shafi admitted the shortage of vitamin drops since last few days and said that they have already sent requisition to Jammu and Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation Limited.

He said that in coming few days, the drops will be available at the hospital.

Fraudsters on prowl

Online frauds continue even as cyber police have increased activities. During these turbulent times, fraudsters are working overtime to rip off consumers. The gullible become victims easily. But it does not mean streetwise are immune. While banking fraud is nothing new, the fraudsters are using the present pandemic to their advantage.

Time and again, police issues caution that these fraudsters use the details and initiate an online transaction and ask for the OTP saying that it is required for completing the process of deferment of EMIs on loan or something else.

Once OTP is provided by a customer, money is siphoned away. The fraudster may also send a malicious link in SMS or email in connection with EMI which, if clicked, may install malware to compromise the mobile or computer, police said.

It should be borne in mind that the One Time Password (OTP), or PIN related to one’s bank account should never be shared with anyone as no bank asks for the same over phone or online.

It would be wise not to click on any links from unknown sources and it is better to ignore any offers online or otherwise. One would be better advised to thoroughly research any organizations or charities purporting to be raising money for the destitute.

Also Cybercrime, including phishing, identity theft and fraud, has massively increased in the past one year.  Scammers utilize a phone number in phishing emails. A person or an automated response system will ask for your personal or account details if you call.

Cyber crime is a criminal activity that involves the use of one or more computer and a network. A target could be an individual, an organisation or a government. Financial fraud, invasion of privacy, illegal trade, online stalking, data theft, subversion and espionage are a few examples of cyber crime.

Crimes such as revenge porn and slut shaming also increased on social media platforms. Some, rather occasional controversies are subsumed over a period. However many problems remain and justice delivery mechanisms appear to be very complex and inaccessible to women and the marginalised when it comes to cyber crimes.

The government is primarily responsible for the prevention, detection, investigation, and prosecution of crimes through law enforcement machinery. There is a need to take prompt action against those posting horribly misogynistic comments including rape threats to women on social media.

Rajnath slams Rahul Gandhi over China-Pak bonhomie comments

Panaji: Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for blaming the BJP for the “friendship” between China and Pakistan, while adding that the bonhomie between the two neighbouring countries was ongoing during previous Congress regimes.

“He stood in Parliament in response to the presidential address and said that because of the BJP China and Pakistan have become friends. I want to ask you, have China and Pakistan become friends because of us? Or did it happened during their government,” Singh said, while speaking at an election rally in South Goa.

“I want to remind Rahul Gandhi that during the tenure of PM Nehru… I want to say this with utmost respect to Nehru. I don’t want to disrespect him. During that time, Pakistan gave away the Shaksgam valley to China. There was no PM from our party at that time,” Singh also said.

Accusing Gandhi of spreading falsehoods, Rajnath Singh also said that the Karakoram highway through Pakistan occupied Kashmir was built during the tenure of former Prime Minister and Rahul Gandhi’s grandmother late Indira Gandhi.

“I want to remind Rahul Gandhi that the Karakoram highway through PoK was built because of the friendship between China and Pakistan and the Prime Minister at that time was Indira Gandhi. China Pakistan Economic Corridor was started during the tenure of Manmohan Singh as the PM of this country. Their friendship has been going on since then. We did not do this,” Singh said.

The Defence Minister also said that the Congress leader’s claim of a lower fatality count among the Chinese armed forces during the Galwan valley clash has been proved wrong by recent disclosures made by an Australian newspaper.

“Rahul Gandhi said that when there was a skirmish between the India and China armies at the Galwan valley that only the two-four Chinese soldiers died. What is Rahul Gandhi trying to do? I want to tell the senior leaders of Congress please make Rahul Gandhi understand. What is he talking? But after he spoke, an Australian paper brought out after investigations that in the Galwan incident 38-50 Chinese soldiers died,” Singh said.

“I haven’t said this. The BJP hasn’t said this. It was an Australian paper that said this. I want Rahul Gandhi to understand we are proud of our armed forces that are defending our borders. You should never question them,” he added.

Dynastic parties biggest threat to democracy: PM Modi

Says world still battling COVID-19, will protect poor of nation till pandemic exists

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday replied to the motion of thanks on the President’s address to Parliament, in the Rajya Sabha.  He said “This is a very important time to think, where to take the nation and how to take the nation ahead, when it celebrates 100 years of Independence.”

He also believed that in order to complete the resolution for this we will need collective partnership and collective ownership.

Modi said that the world is still battling COVID-19. “Humanity has not seen any challenge like this in the last hundred years. The people of India have taken the vaccine and they have done this not merely to protect themselves but also protect others. Such conduct, in the midst of so many global anti-vaccine movements is admirable.”

He said that people kept raising questions about India’s progress in this time of the pandemic but India ensured 80 crore citizens get access to free ration. It was also ensured that record houses for the poor are built; these houses are equipped with water connections.

“During this pandemic we have provided water through taps to 5 crore people and created a new record. Because of our rational approach our farmers produced bumper harvests during the pandemic. We completed many infrastructure related projects during the pandemic because we believe that they ensure jobs during such challenging times. During this pandemic, our youth have made huge strides in Sports and brought glory to the nation. Indian youth with their start-ups have made India become one of the top three start-ups destination in the world.”

Modi underlined that during this pandemic whether it is a COP 26 or G20 related matter or whether it is related to export of medicine in more than 150 countries, India has played a leadership role and the whole world is discussing this. He emphasized that we focussed more on the MSME sector and agriculture sector during the pandemic.

While giving data on employment, Modi said that in the year of 2021 EPFO payroll data shows that around 1 crore 20 lakh new people have enrolled themselves on the EPFO portal. “These all are formal jobs and out of these around 60 to 65 lakh are aged between 18 and 25, it means it is their first job.”

While speaking on the inflation, the Prime Minister said that we have tried our best to check the inflation and when we compare this with other economies then we can say that today India is the only big economy which is experiencing high growth with medium inflation.

“We have to work for people irrespective of which side of the aisle we are on. The mindset that being in the Opposition means stop working towards solving people’s issues is wrong.” Modi said that he felt astonished when some Members said that India’s vaccination drive is no big deal.

He said that from the beginning of the pandemic the government has made every effort to mobilize every resource available in the country and the world. He also assured everyone that till the pandemic exists, we will protect the poor of the nation.

Modi said that fighting COVID-19 is also linked to a strong and cordial federal structure. “There have been 23 meetings with respected Chief Ministers on the issue.” He expressed grief over the boycott of the opposition parties to attend the all-party meeting on the COVID-19 issue.

The Prime Minister said that today more than 80 thousand health and wellness centers are functioning in the country under Ayushman Bharat. These centers are providing better primary healthcare facilities including free tests near the village and home.

Speaking on democracy, Modi said that we will never learn lessons in democracy from those who trampled over democracy in 1975. “The biggest threat to our democracy is dynastic parties. When one family gets too prevalent in a political party, political talent suffers.”

Modi said “some Members asked- if there was no Congress, what would happen?” “I would like to say, if there was no Congress there would be no Emergency, there would be no caste politics, Sikhs would never have been massacred, the problems of Kashmiri Pandits would not have happened,” he said.

He reiterated that we do not see any conflicts between national progress and regional aspirations. “India’s progress will be stronger when it addresses regional aspirations keeping in mind the development of the country. When our states progress, the country progresses,” he added.

Modi concluded his speech by saying that we should end the tradition of differentiation and to walk together with the same mindset is the need of time. A golden period and the whole world is looking forward to India with a hope and we should not lose this opportunity.

Journalists can lose accreditation on national security grounds: New Guidelines

0

New Delhi: The new Central Media Accreditation Guidelines-2022 released by the Centre have included a stringent provision under which a journalist can lose government accreditation if the person “acts in a manner which is prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India, the security of the state, friendly relations with foreign states, public order, decency or morality or in relation to contempt of court, defamation or incitement of an offence”.

The new accreditation guidelines announced by the Press Information Bureau—the official communication arm of the central government—has also opened up government accreditation for web journalists for the first time, even as news aggregators will remain out of the ambit.

A senior government official said that the entire process of accreditation has been streamlined, grey zones have been removed, rules have full clarity and there is no scope for interpretation or fudging.

“The new rules are reformative. They are focused on professional work. Digital media has been given full recognition which was earlier lacking. For the first time in history foreign media will get accreditation for full term of J Visa,” the official said.

The official also pointed out that a journalist was earlier arrested for spying for China but his accreditation could not be cancelled as there was no provision.

“In several cases of sexual and other cognisable offences no action could be taken earlier,” the official said, explaining the new provisions. Also, for the first time Accreditation Rules specifically state ‘working journalist’ while till now they were referred to as ‘representatives’, the official said.

This is about a year after it came up with new rules to regulate the online media and OTT platforms and about a year-and-a-half after the government agreed on including digital and electronic media journalists under the definition of ‘Working Journalist’.

The new policy has been in the works for the last many months. Both the provisions did not feature in the last media accreditation policy of the government, which was brought in 2013, and were introduced for the first time under the new accreditation policy drafted by the Information and Broadcasting ministry.

The old policy just stated that the media accreditation cards would be withdrawn once the conditions on which it was issued would cease to exist and could be withdrawn or suspended in the instance of a misuse.

The new policy also lists out other instances in which a journalist’s accreditation can be suspended. This includes person charged with a “serious cognisable offence”, one who uses the accreditation cards for non-journalistic activities, leaves the organisation on whose behalf the person was accredited or the organisation ceases to exist.

It also categorically points out that the accredited media person will not use the words “Accredited to the Government of India” on public or social media profile, visiting cards, letterheads or any other published work.

A PIB accreditation card provides access to journalists inside government buildings within Delhi-NCR and important government events. Press accreditation cards are issued by the respective state governments to journalists in other states.

Around 3,000 press accreditation cards are issued every year by the PIB. Railway fare concessions and a Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) card are other benefits that come with a PIB accreditation card.

For accreditation of journalists in digital media, the applicants will have to report the website’s average monthly unique visitor count of the last six months certified by its CAG-approved/empanelled auditors. One digital media journalist will be eligible for accreditation from news websites with 10 to 50 lakh unique visitors. Four journalists can get accredited from news websites with over a crore unique visitors a month.

The new policy has set up fixed quotas for journalists working in newspapers, magazines and TV news channels. Foreign news media working journalists will be issued PIB cards till the validity of their J visa. (Agencies)
