Delhi policeman falls ill on duty, dies

New Delhi, May 7: After breaching the security cordon of the country’s finest para-military forces of CRPF and BSF, Novel Coronavirus managed to send panic waves in the Police department, as a Delhi Police constable succumbed to the deadly virus in the national capital on Thursday, while the count of positive cases reached 52,952 in the country.
COVID-19 did not spare even the first line of defence of the country, the Border Security Force, as two BSF Jawans succumbed to the deadly virus, the force confirmed.
Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal condoled the death of Delhi Police constable Amit Kumar, who died due to Novel Coronavirus, after falling ill on duty. Joint Commissioner of Police Northern Range Manish Agrawal, DCP North West Vijayanta Goyal Arya and other police officials of the NW district showered flowers on the ambulance carrying Kumar’s mortal remains, as it arrived at the crematorium.
The constable, posted at Police Station Bharat Nagar, was taken to Deep Chand Bandhu hospital, where he was provided initial treatment on Tuesday. However, his situation deteriorated in the evening and he was then rushed to RML Hospital, after complaining of breathlessness.
The overall tally of COVID-19 in the country touched 52,952, including 1783 deaths. While there are 35902 active cases at present, as many as 15266 patients have recovered so far. As many as 64 flights and three Navy ships will be operated until May 13, to bring home nearly 15,000 Indians stranded overseas, according to the Health Ministry data.

Coronavirus infected 118 more people and claimed one more life in Punjab, raising the tally to 1644 and deaths to 28 in the state.
Rajasthan added 38 fresh cases and two more deaths to its novel coronavirus tally, pushing the total number of infections to 3,355 and fatalities to 95.
For the second consecutive day, no new case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Kerala, while five patients under treatment have tested negative and 25 patients were still under treatment in different hospitals in the State, Health Minister KK Shailaja Teacher said.
