Srinagar, Sept 18: Jammu & Kashmir Police arrested five alleged drug peddlers in separate operations in Pulwama and Anantnag districts and recovered 118.1 grams of charas-like substance from their possession.
In Pulwama, police arrested two persons during patrolling near Dairy Farm in Puchal area and recovered 33.5 grams of the substance.
The accused were identified as Anees Ul Islam, son of Fayaz Ahmad Rather, a resident of Lajoora, from whose possession 13.5 grams was recovered, and Margoob Nazir, son of Nazir Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Puchal, from whose possession 20 grams was recovered.
Police Station Pulwama registered FIR No. 190/2026 under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act and initiated investigation.
In Anantnag, police arrested three persons in two separate cases.
A police party from Police Station Bijbehara apprehended Som Sarthi, son of Deepak Sarthi, and Chotu Bariya, son of Kanhaiya Lal, both residents of Chhattisgarh and presently staying in Guree, Bijbehara, during naka checking at Darashikwa Crossing.
Police recovered 74.6 grams of charas-like substance in stick form from the two accused. A case under Sections 8/20 and 29 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Bijbehara through FIR No. 267/2026.
In a separate operation, police personnel from Police Post Bus Stand arrested Aijaz Ahmad Wani, son of Nazir Ahmad Wani, a resident of Anchidoora, at Bus Stand Crossing and recovered 10 grams of charas-like substance from his possession.
Police Station Bijbehara registered FIR No. 316/2026 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act, and investigation in the case is underway.
Police said the recovered contraband had been seized in accordance with prescribed legal procedures and reiterated its commitment to sustained action against drug trafficking and narcotics-related activities in the two districts.
