Demonstrating success

Jammu and Kashmir has shown itself to be a textbook case of success as reported in the Annual Report of the Union of Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare for 2025-26.

For the first time in the region’s history, agrarian communities have received massive benefit from the pinpoint application of various flagship programs, like PM-KISAN, which indicate a customer-oriented drastic change in local agriculture production.

The latest report shows that out of the more than 854,000 farmers currently operating within the UT, innumerable crores of rupees have been spent under PM-KISAN payments to farmers with very large amounts being allocated on behalf of the farmers via the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

The direct benefit transfer scheme created a favorable and safe environment for farmers (who are usually at the bottom of the agricultural production chain) to cope with the circumstances around agricultural production and increase the purchasing potential of the local economy.

While this new influx of investments into infrastructure and technology coincided with direct benefit transfer payments, it is also now expected that investment will continuously increase in the future.

This region is also eligible for receiving refunds for the difference between freight charges for transporting certified seeds from outside the region using rail (freight) rather than by truck (road).

The above-mentioned provision has made it less expensive to purchase certified seeds while at the same time providing farmers with greater yields on their farms.

Due to the impact of these new regulations, the amount of horticultural development program incentives has been significantly enhanced by the Ministry of Union.

Establishment of post-harvest assistance programs, as well as inclusion of local agricultural economies into national trade networks, has had a positive effect on farming practices.

The Ministry of Agriculture has made significant strides in setting up the national pest management programs; every region in the country has received high quality, environmentally sustainable agriculture practices; thus, farmers in Kashmir are primed to be the leader in the development of modern agriculture in India.

This achievement further demonstrates the continuing commitment of the government to improve the socio-economic conditions of farmers throughout Jammu & Kashmir and thereby allowing these farmers to realize rural economic development, develop further in their respective regions and ultimately achieve full development of (Jammu & Kashmir).
