Akashvani launches broadcast studio

Srinagar, July 3: Akashvani Srinagar on Friday launched a dedicated state-of-the-art broadcast studio for the Special Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY) 2026 transmission, enhancing radio and digital coverage to provide pilgrims with real-time information, weather updates, traffic advisories and devotional programming throughout the annual pilgrimage.

The dedicated facility, commissioned exclusively for the Yatra, will support uninterrupted broadcasting across the Baltal and Pahalgam routes through terrestrial and digital platforms, enabling pilgrims and devotees in India and abroad to access timely updates during the pilgrimage.

The studio was inaugurated by Gurbinder Singh, Deputy Director General (Engineering) and Head of Office, Akashvani Srinagar, in the presence of Ghulam Rasool Akhoon, Head of Programmes (Assistant Director, Programme), Suresh Chand Meena, Programme Executive, and senior officers from the Engineering and Programme Wings.

Addressing the gathering, Gurbinder Singh described the Special SANJY transmission as a unique broadcasting initiative covering one of the country’s most challenging pilgrimage routes along the Baltal and Pahalgam axes. He said the dedicated studio represents a significant technological upgrade in pilgrimage broadcasting and is equipped with modern digital audio systems to ensure uninterrupted, high-quality transmission.

“Our objective is to make the broadcast accessible not only to pilgrims on the ground but also to devotees across the country and around the world through multiple terrestrial and digital platforms,” he said.

To strengthen connectivity in the mountainous terrain, Akashvani has installed two special FM transmitters at Baltal and Pahalgam to provide reliable radio coverage along the entire pilgrimage route up to the Holy Cave, including remote and high-altitude locations.

The special transmission will feature devotional music, live reports from base camps and Yatra routes, interviews with pilgrims and officials, feature programmes, weather bulletins, traffic advisories and other public information aimed at facilitating the pilgrimage.

Among those present on the occasion were Pramod Kumar, Director (Engineering); Samina Shah, Senior Programme Officer; Ishfaq Ahmad Shah, Head, Regional News Unit; Ashfaq Lone, Senior Broadcaster, Akashvani Srinagar; Waseem Farooq, Programme Executive and In-charge, Special Transmission SANJY 2026; besides officers and staff of Akashvani Srinagar.
