The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has given great importance to accelerate project works relating to waterbody protection, hence, including project works that comply with environmental protection laws. This is a significant step towards ensuring adequate protection of the unique ecological character of world-class natural waterbodies in the region.
Effective protection of both the lakes in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir and long-term public interest must maintain a balance point.
The lakes in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmira are very appealing for visitors and provide the basis for both natural and cultural living in Kashmir, however, the lakes have been under continuous attack due to urbanisation, inadequate treatment of waste; and lakes being filled with sediments from the ravines, along with entirely inadequate buildup of material from years of growth.
The government administration’s actions have clearly demonstrated a radical shift in the historical pattern of slow and inadequate approaches to clean up, toward the current approach of complete, measurable, and accountable clean-up.
The government has made it clear that it will attempt to balance the desire to work quickly with the ability to meet all statutory and regulatory obligations and laws.
The environmentally friendly rehabilitation of the lakes located in the Union Territories will eliminate any risk to their existing ecosystems or the overall natural environment of these lakes.
The new direction of emphasis on ecological conservation will also include adding new environmental enhancements to the way we manage sewage, so that communities have a level of service that meets today’s needs for sewage management and provides an opportunity for eco-developing the community.
At all levels, governments are creating a framework for sustainable development and integrating science-based evaluations into their infrastructure investment policies.
Eventually, by successfully completing any combination of the aforementioned projects, all parties will see that there can be coexistence between environmental stewardship and long-term economic sustainability.
