101 cases registered, 143 arrested in Sgr

Srinagar, May 12: District Police Srinagar has intensified its anti-drug operations under the ongoing “War Against Drugs” campaign launched as part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, registering 101 NDPS cases and arresting 143 persons involved in narcotics-related activities.

Officials said large quantities of narcotic and psychotropic substances including heroin, brown sugar, charas, cannabis, ganja, psychotropic tablets, syrups, and poppy straw were recovered during multiple operations across Srinagar.

Police also seized Rs 4.13 lakh cash linked to drug trafficking, while bank accounts containing over Rs 30 lakh were frozen during financial investigations against accused persons.

In a major action against drug networks, Srinagar Police attached 15 properties, including 11 immovable and four movable assets worth Rs 21.544 crore, besides seizing 35 vehicles allegedly used in narcotics smuggling.

Authorities further processed eight PIT NDPS cases, suspended or blacklisted 84 driving licenses, deactivated six Aadhaar cards, and impounded one passport as part of strict legal action against offenders.

Police said eight FIRs were registered against drug peddlers operating near educational institutions, leading to the arrest of 14 accused persons.

During the campaign, illegal poppy and opium cultivation spread over 25.03 kanals of land was destroyed, while three properties valued at Rs 3.55 crore were demolished.

Officials also conducted inspections of 703 chemist and medical shops across Srinagar, resulting in action against 15 establishments for violations.

As part of preventive and awareness measures, Srinagar Police organised 210 awareness programmes involving more than 27,840 participants from different sections of society.

Police reiterated their commitment towards a drug-free Kashmir and appealed to the public, particularly youth, to support the fight against narcotics. (KNC)
