Illegal Mining: 2 vehicles seized in Pulwama

Srinagar, April 03: In a determined effort to curb illegal mining, J&K Police in Pulwama on Monday said to have seized two vehicles involved in unauthorized transportation of minerals from the Ugergund area of Pulwama.

A police party of Police Post Newa at a checkpoint established at Ugergund Crossing intercepted two tractors bearing registration numbers JK05C-8611 and JK13C-8576, a police spokesman said in a statement.

“Upon checking, both vehicles were found transporting illegally extracted boulders. The drivers were identified as Mohd Afzal Malik son of Ab Rahim Malik resident of Ugergund and Muzaffar Ahmad Bhat son of Bashir Bhat resident of Karimabad. Both vehicles were seized on the spot,” police said.

Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 47/2026 under Section 303(ii) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act (PPD Act) has been registered at PS Pulwama and further investigation is in progress.

Meanwhile, J&K Police reiterated its commitment to curb illegal mining and urges the public to report such activities to the nearest police unit.
