Centre clears Rs 330 Cr disaster relief for J&K

Okays Rs 1,912 cr assistance for 6 States, UT

New Delhi: The Union Government has approved Rs 330.34 crore as additional Central assistance for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to support relief and recovery efforts following floods, flash floods, cloudbursts and landslides that occurred during 2025.

The assistance was cleared by a High-Level Committee chaired by Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah and will be provided from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF). The amount is subject to adjustment of 50 percent of the opening balance available in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for the year.

The approval for Jammu and Kashmir is part of a larger package of Rs1,912.99 crore additional Central assistance sanctioned for six States and the Union Territory affected by natural calamities.

According to official details, Rs778.67 crore has been approved for Gujarat, Rs341.48 crore for Andhra Pradesh, Rs288.39 crore for Himachal Pradesh, Rs158.41 crore for Nagaland, and Rs15.70 crore for Chhattisgarh, in addition to the allocation for Jammu and Kashmir.

The Government of India said the additional assistance reflects its continued commitment to support States and Union Territories during natural disasters. Officials stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Centre is extending all necessary help to State Governments facing calamities.

The assistance is over and above the funds already released under the State Disaster Response Fund placed at the disposal of the States.

During the financial year 2025–26, the Central Government has released Rs20,735.20 crore to 28 States under SDRF and Rs3,628.18 crore to 21 States under NDRF.

In addition, Rs5,373.20 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) has been released to 23 States, while Rs1,189.56 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) has been provided to 21 States, officials added.
