Srinagar, Feb 05: PDP senior leader and Constituency in-charge Habba Kadal, Arif Laigaroo on Thursday visited Chattabal to express solidarity with the families affected by a massive fire that broke out early morning, gutting at least 10 residential houses and leaving several families homeless.
During his visit, Laigaroo interacted with the affected families, listened to their grievances, and took stock of the losses suffered, including damage to houses, household goods, and other essential belongings. He expressed deep anguish over the incident and termed the loss suffered by the victims as “heart-wrenching.”
Laigaroo appealed to the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, to ensure immediate relief and compensation to the affected families. He stressed that adequate assistance must be provided on priority to restore the damaged houses to a livable condition, enabling the victims to resume their daily lives at the earliest.
“Such tragedies leave families devastated both emotionally and economically. The administration must act swiftly to provide relief, shelter, and rehabilitation so that the affected families do not suffer further hardships,” Laigaroo said.
He also urged the authorities to assess the losses comprehensively and ensure transparency and fairness in the disbursement of relief. Laigaroo emphasized the need for long-term measures to prevent such incidents in densely populated localities.
Assuring the victims of his continued support, Laigaroo said he would personally follow up the matter with the district administration and other concerned departments until justice and adequate relief are delivered to every affected family.
