Budget to be tabled on Feb 6
Jammu, Jan 12: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Secretariat on Monday issued the provisional calendar for the sittings of the 5th Session of the Legislative Assembly of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, outlining an extensive legislative and financial agenda spread over February, March and April 2026.
According to the calendar, the session will commence on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Jammu, with the Lieutenant Governor’s Address to the House. The address will set the tone for the session and will be followed by a three-day discussion on the Motion of Thanks from February 3 to February 5, culminating with the government’s reply.
Financial business will form the core of the session’s proceedings. On Friday, February 6, the government will present the Annual Financial Statement of Expenditure for the year 2026–27 along with the Supplementary Statement of Expenditure for 2025–26. The Budget will thereafter be taken up for general discussion on February 7, 9 and 10, with the government scheduled to reply to the discussion on February 10.
The calendar further provides for detailed consideration of Demands for Grants from February 11 to February 13 and again from February 16 to February 19. February 14 has been marked as an off day, while February 8 and February 15 will be observed as holidays.
As per the schedule, the Appropriation Bills will be taken up on Friday, February 27, followed by Government Business on February 28. The House will then resume further legislative business in the last week of March.
The provisional calendar lists Private Members’ Bills for March 30 and April 2, while Private Members’ Resolutions are scheduled for March 31 and April 3. Government Business is again slated for April 4, 2026. April 3 has been marked as a holiday on account of Good Friday.
The provisional calendar has been issued under the signature of Speaker Advocate Abdul Rahim Rather. Officials said the schedule provides a structured roadmap for the Assembly’s work over the next three months, signalling a packed session with detailed deliberations on the government’s financial roadmap, policy priorities and legislative agenda for the coming year.
