Encourage students to develop a mini home library by keeping 10 to 20 books. They can be motivated by giving stars in their progress reports.
Books are precious, books are assets, books are a treasure of knowledge. Books are the best alternative when we have nothing to do. They are very valuable and they increase our interest in many things. Books are the main source of facts and information. Books are like a simple gadget carrying a gallery of facts and figures.
Why read books?
For students up to the 10th grade, NCERT books and general knowledge from weekly or monthly magazines are the best sources of learning. I suggest that students from the 6th grade and above should read NCERT books and collect basic knowledge for higher classes.
Unfortunately, many students in higher education lack basic knowledge of history, civics, geography, Urdu, Hindi, and English. They choose professional courses and think reading other books is not important for them. But we must know all the subjects we study at the school level.
We should not prepare only for final exams, midterms, or unit tests. As parents or teachers, we must provide interesting books to students so they can read in their free time and develop interest in many things. School administrations should provide updated and interesting books, guide students about the importance of reading, and tell them how regular reading will help them in the future by reducing pressure and stress.
We should make reading a habit. Sometimes, buying a storybook or a simple novel written by a famous writer helps us. Reading books increases our interest and updates our knowledge about many concepts that we did not learn during school days.
Many of us think differently about reading books. Earlier, in school, we told students to focus only on certain subjects. Now, we must change this thinking and encourage learners to study in a happy and free environment. In such an environment, learners learn more and become independent at a comfortable stage of life.
I think that up to the 10th standard, students must have a grip on spoken English and understand basic concepts. A degree is just a paper. We must have the ability to learn from others, discuss with others, and teach others what we know.
Home Library
I think we should give stars to students in their progress reports if they maintain a home library with at least 15 to 20 books. Home libraries are very important these days. Students can decorate an almirah with books. Some people keep showpieces in their almirahs, but books are more useful. Keeping books in the almirah helps children learn more things in their own room without needing to go to a library.
Encourage students to keep more books in their home library and reduce unnecessary visits to outside libraries.
Keeping trending exam books, storybooks, novels, and religious books at home gives learners a chance to learn whenever they feel free. Having these facilities provides a good opportunity to learn in a free and comfortable way.
