NDA sweeps Bihar elections

New Delhi, Nov 14: The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has created a landslide victory in the Bihar elections results as it crossed the 200-mark on Friday. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged as the single-largest party with 89 seats while its ally Janata Dal (United) following it with 85 seats.
The Opposition’s INDIA or Mahagathbandhan (MGB) alliance has dropped below 40 seats. Earlier in the morning, the MGB was leading in over 80 seats. Meanwhile, the debutant Jan Suraaj Party is staring at zero seats only.
Although in the early trends at one point, JSP led with 4 seats, however, it soon declined to 0. The required number of seats to form the government is 122.
Witnessing high drama during the poll campaigning and the preceding Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise before Bihar went to polls in two phases on November 6 and 11 on 243 constituencies where 2,616 candidates contested.
Current Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, a JDU leader, in alliance with the BJP is expected to retain his seat for the record fifth term. The Opposition’s CM Candidate and Rashtriya Janata Dal’s leader Tejashwi Yadav has again gained lead from his Raghopur constituency.
