Srinagar, Nov 07: The Economic Offences Wing of the Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a chargesheet against ten individuals, including four officials of the Revenue Department, for their alleged involvement in a land compensation fraud in Anantnag district.
According to a Crime Branch spokesperson, the case involves fraudulent disbursement of compensation to “non-existent” beneficiaries whose land was falsely shown as acquired by the government for the construction of the Verinag–Kokernag road via Batagund. The road project began in 2015.
The chargesheet, registered under various sections of the Ranbir Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act, was filed before the Court of the Special Judge (Anti-Corruption), Anantnag.
Investigations revealed that the then Tehsildar, Naib Tehsildar, Girdawar, and Patwari of Dooru, in connivance with private individuals, forged and manipulated official records to facilitate illegal compensation payments. Fictitious entries were allegedly made in revenue documents, causing a substantial loss to the state exchequer and undermining public trust.
The spokesperson said sufficient evidence was gathered during the probe, reaffirming the Crime Branch’s commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in public administration and bringing those involved in economic offences to justice.
