Srinagar, Sept 12: Acting swiftly on reports of the sale of rotten and unhygienic meat in the district, Srinagar Police, in coordination with the Civil Administration and the Department of Food Safety, has launched a dedicated crackdown to curb the menace.
So far, six FIRs have been registered against individuals and establishments found selling unfit meat in violation of public health regulations. The cases include FIR No. 45/2025 under sections 271, 275 BNS at PS Lal Bazar; FIR No. 90/2025 under sections 272, 275 BNS at PS Bemina; FIR No. 67/2025 under sections 271, 275 BNS and 51 Food Safety Act at PS Batamaloo; FIR No. 102/2025 under sections 271, 280 BNS at PS Safakadal; FIR No. 73/2025 under sections 271, 275 BNS at PS Ram Munshi Bagh; and FIR No. 48/2025 under sections 61, 271, 275 BNS at PS Zakura.
A Flying Squad comprising officials from District Police, Civil Administration, and the Food Safety Department has been constituted to carry out surprise inspections across Srinagar. Significant quantities of rotten meat have already been seized and destroyed as per laid-down protocol.
J&K Police reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health, warning that strict legal action will be taken against violators. Citizens have been urged to remain vigilant and report such malpractices to the nearest police station or via police helplines.
