In an important acknowledgment of the rapid new transformations taking place in Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha observed the incredible development of the region’s sports infrastructure in the last five years.
Sports development is not only about construction of fields and training facilities; but it is a significant change in opportunities for young people. It is bringing possibilities, confidence, discipline, and competition.
Through the dedicated efforts of the administration, Jammu and Kashmir has developed world-class sports complexes, synthetic tracks, indoor stadiums, and international-level sporting facilities; bringing sports to the doorsteps of young athletes.
In addition to the establishment of the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, national-level sporting events since 2015, have established Jammu and Kashmir as a sports Development sibling district in the Indian sports landscape.
What is astonishing about the development is that it makes great ecological sense; thousands of young people have gradually been given access to some facilities, never known before, and are stepping onto the stage to compete, and win for the Union Territory.
This momentum is not confined to the next iteration of the games. A commitment from the young participants within the youth development community has developed a culture of competitiveness, and a wanting to represent as they do on the world stage, from team sports; to individual athletics including winter sports. Their energy and ambition can be accommodated productively.
While this sporting transformation has its benefits of medals and competitions, the positive outcome of engaging our youth in sports provides the government with an avenue of supporting the youth’s hope, discipline, and love or the country.
Sport is the new opportunity in a region that once had few. Sport is the next option in social cohesion and economic empowerment.
While Lieutenant Governor Sinha plans a “vibrant sports ecosystem” would yield such results, it is commendable to note that the dropout in sports programs has created so many favourable outcomes. The government has solid commitment to develop new talents in sports from the ground level, and with the sports community, the corporate support, the more they embrace sports, the better.
With more youth starting sports professionally, Jammu and Kashmir will become a prime location of enormous sporting achievement.
This is not just a story of the building of infrastructure, it is a story of the realization of everyday dreams are being fulfilled, the fuelling of hopes, and a new generation with a point of view of could be.
