Srinagar, Jun 06: Amid religious fervour and festive spirit, Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated across Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.
The day marks one of the most significant Islamic festivals, commemorating the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command.
On Saturday morning, people will gather at mosques and open grounds to offer the special congregational Eid prayers. Large crowds are expected, with the biggest gathering likely to take place at the revered Dargah Hazratbal shrine in Srinagar.
Following the prayers, the main ritual of qurbani (sacrificial offering) will be observed in remembrance of the Prophet’s devotion.
The act will be carried out with religious zeal, followed by the distribution of meat among family, neighbours, and the underprivileged — an essential aspect of the festival that underscores compassion and charity.
Meanwhile, Srinagar’s markets were bustling with shoppers on Arafah Day, the day before Eid-ul-Adha, as residents hurried to purchase essentials and festive items for tomorrow’s celebrations.
The lively atmosphere reflected the excitement and devotion marking one of the most significant festivals for the Muslim community.
A local shopper sharing his experience said the markets remained jam-packed today as everyone was busy buying last-minute essentials.
He said, “Eid is tomorrow and the festive spirit is everywhere. It is heart-warming to see families coming together and purchasing goods.”
Meanwhile, the authorities have stepped up arrangements to manage the crowd and ensure smooth movement in key market areas. Additional police personnel were deployed, and traffic diversions were also in place to avoid congestion.
