Revival of festive spirit

In the days leading up to the holy festival of Eid al-Adha, the markets in Kashmir appear to be fully staffed, fulfilling the region’s cultural traditions, as well as offering a means of living for the economy.

Srinagar to Shops has been steadily harvesting more and more footfall. This is not simply a festive expectation, but also optimistic-talk about new economic ventures, and community goodwill.

Eid-ul-Adha, the most important festival of Sacrifice by Muslims worldwide, is celebrated in Kashmir, as many people will feel it, with a lot of prayer, food, and community charity. This year, the shops bursting with bright colours from stalls, spicy smells of condiments, the still evolving excitement expressed in clothing’s ready to be worn, preserving the pain from last Eid, in the name of the community, embracing the ritual of un-conditional happiness.

Local business people and artisans are back, revitalizing their sales at just the right time. The shopkeeper said, henna kits, colourful and traditionally enchanting jewellery, sacrificial animals and dried fruits, all through the renewed demand of creative makeshift honours, despite contributing the local economy.

This uptick in economic activity is promising for small time operators, such as vendors and those who live off of the capitalizing on festive events.

Also, the spirit of the festive season is bringing togetherness and purpose. Ging-gang families are flocking to the markets together, kids are giddy picking out new clothes, and the smell of Kashmiri food has filled the air with excitement.

This kind-hearted spirit ensures that meat is fairly divided between those that can afford to purchase this rare delight and those that cannot, living to the true meaning of Eid ul Adha.

Traffic was managed well to keep the markets buzzing, and the time it took for highways to be sanitised was swift, which added to the energy.

At the same time, local authorities and associations of people are working with shoppers, to ensure an enjoyable, safe, and environmentally friendly atmosphere.

The increase in sales is certainly greater than economic recovery, it is a revival of hope in fellowship and joy in sustenance.

Let this Eid inspire not only the celebration of Eid but also the inspiration, will, resilience, and dreams that is Kashmir, and may the blessing of Eid-ul-Adha be seen in all.
