‘Govt committed to Constitutional safeguards’
New Delhi, Mar 04: A six-member delegation of the Apex Body, Leh (ABL), and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) from the Union Territory of Ladakh Monday met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi.
The Union Home Minister assured the delegation that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government of India is committed to providing necessary Constitutional safeguards to the Union Territory of Ladakh.
He mentioned that the High Powered Committee on Ladakh, tasked with addressing the demands of ABL and KDA, has been discussing modalities to provide these Constitutional safeguards.
The Home Minister emphasized the importance of the consultative mechanism established through this High Powered Committee to address issues such as preserving the region’s unique culture and language, protecting land and employment, fostering inclusive development and employment generation, empowering LAHDCs, and exploring constitutional safeguards for positive outcomes.
The High Powered Committee, under the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, has been actively engaging with representatives of ABL and KDA, resulting in significant progress.
A sub-committee formed by the HPC is also actively involved, collaborating with the Ministry of Law and other experts.
“The second meeting of this sub-committee, attended by representatives of ABL and KDA, as well as senior officers from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Department of Legal Affairs, and Legislative Department, took place today,” Govt said.
The meeting proceeded cordially, addressing various issues concerning land, employment, and constitutional safeguards, aiming to benefit the people of Ladakh.
