Srinagar, Sep 28: As the leaves in Kashmir turn red, gold, and orange, the region is experiencing a surge in tourist arrivals.
With the advent of Autumn, tourists from across the country and around the world are flocking the Valley to witness the breathtaking beauty of the season, and tourism stakeholders are optimistic that this trend will continue into the winter months.
Kashmir, often referred to as “Paradise on Earth,” has always been a favored destination for tourists seeking natural beauty, tranquility, and adventure. This year, the region, according to the officials, has recorded the arrival of 1.6 crore tourists, including 30,000 foreigners.
One of the key attractions of Kashmir during the autumn season is the breathtaking landscape. The region’s iconic Chinar trees turn brilliant shades of red and gold, creating a picturesque backdrop that leaves visitors awe-inspired. Dal Lake, with its shimmering waters and houseboats, becomes even more enchanting as the surrounding gardens and hillsides transform into a riot of colors.
Local tour operators and hoteliers have reported a significant increase in bookings and inquiries in recent weeks.
Ahmad Khan, a prominent tour operator in Srinagar, while talking to Precious Kashmir said, “The autumn season in Kashmir is unparalleled in its beauty. We have seen a surge in tourist interest, and our bookings are witnessing an upward tick. People are eager to witness the mesmerizing colors of this season.”
“The revival of tourism in Kashmir is not only a boon for the region’s economy but also for the livelihoods of countless locals who depend on tourism-related activities. Hotel owners, houseboat operators, and handicraft artisans are all benefiting from the increased tourist flow,” Khan added.
A travel agent said, “One factor contributing to the surge in tourists is improved security and a perceived sense of safety. Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have taken proactive steps to enhance security measures and ensure the safety of visitors. This has bolstered tourists’ confidence in choosing Kashmir as their travel destination.”
While Autumn is undoubtedly a prime season for tourism in Kashmir, industry insiders are optimistic that the momentum will continue into the winter months. The region’s pristine snow-covered landscapes, perfect for winter sports, are a significant draw for adventure seekers. Skiing, snowboarding, and ice skating are just a few of the activities that attract tourists during this time.
A hotel owner in Gulmarg, known for its winter sports facilities, said, “We are gearing up for a busy winter season. We are expecting a surge in bookings for skiing and snowboarding packages. The beauty of Kashmir doesn’t fade with the changing seasons.”
An official said, “The Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department is also playing a crucial role in promoting the region as a year-round tourist destination. They have launched various marketing campaigns highlighting the beauty of Kashmir during autumn and winter, encouraging travelers to explore beyond the conventional summer months.”
