Srinagar: In a significant effort to strengthen grassroots governance and foster collaborative development, the 3-day National Workshop on Panchayats in Srinagar saw the participation of elected representatives and functionaries of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) from every corner of the country, along with participants from Jammu and Kashmir.

They had converged to share insights, experiences, and best practices in local governance.

“The workshop garnered attention for its dedication to enhancing the effectiveness of PRIs and promoting their crucial role in decentralized decision-making. With a focus on thematic areas, the event aimed to celebrate and learn from the initiatives taken by various Panchayats in sectors like healthcare, education, rural infrastructure, women’s empowerment, and sustainable development,” an official told Precious Kashmir.

The tranquil setting of Srinagar served as a backdrop to this significant gathering, where participants engaged in lively discussions, panel sessions, and knowledge-sharing forums. The event also offered a platform for representatives to voice their challenges and successes, exchange innovative ideas, and strategize for the future.

J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had inaugurated the workshop on Monday. He had stressed on the importance of local self-governance in building a stronger and more prosperous India. He had noted that Panchayats are the foundation of democracy, acting as a bridge between the government and the people.

LG Sinha had emphasized the need for empowerment, transparency, and accountability at the grassroots level, asserting that only a robust Panchayati Raj system could lead the nation toward its developmental goals.

According to the officials the government is planning to establish a dedicated knowledge-sharing platform for PRIs, where success stories and best practices can be documented and accessed easily.

One of the key highlights of the workshop was the participation of Panchayats that have shown exceptional leadership in thematic areas. “From the remote hilly regions to the coastal villages these success stories provided inspiration for others striving to make a difference in their communities,” said a participant.

The National Workshop also facilitated dialogues on pressing issues, such as enhancing the financial autonomy of Panchayats, improving service delivery at the local level, and leveraging technology for better governance. Experts and practitioners from various fields led interactive sessions, offering practical insights and solutions to the challenges faced by PRIs.

The enthusiasm and commitment of the attendees remained palpable. Participants expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to connect with counterparts from different states and regions, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose.

“The dedication and determination displayed by PRIs and their representatives serve as a testament to the potential of local leadership in driving positive change. With the knowledge shared and networks forged at this workshop, the path toward a stronger, more equitable India is being paved from the ground up,” said an observer.
