3 drug peddlers held in Kashmir: Police

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday claimed to have arrested three drug peddlers in Kulgam & Budgam districts and recovered contraband substance from their possession.

A police party headed by SHO Police Station Qazigund at a checkpoint established at Levdoora Crossing intercepted a vehicle (Bus) bearing registration number JK02BM-4755 with 02 persons onboard. During search of the vehicle, 10 Kgs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance filled in the nylon bag which was kept behind the driver’s seat was recovered, a police spokesman said.

They have been identified as Rakesh Kumar (Driver) son of Ball Krishan a resident of Khadi Udhampur and Samraj son of Bansilal a resident of Dhar road Jammu. They have been arrested and shifted to a police station where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in commission of crime was also seized.

Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 116/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Qazigund and investigation has been initiated.

Similarly, a police party of Police Station Khansahib at a checkpoint established at Yarikhah near Kralpathri crossing intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot after noticing the police party but was apprehended tactfully, police said.

During search, 50 grams of Charas like substance and 1.8 Kgs of Bhang Patri was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Ghulam Hassan Sheikh @ Hassan Lali son of Abdul Gani Sheikh resident of Yarikhah Khansahib. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, police said.

Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 70/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Khansahib and investigation has been taken up.

“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt strictly under law,” police said.
