‘Under construction treatment plant to be completed in 5 months’
Srinagar: Jal Shakti Department on Thursday said that the existing water supply scheme for Budgam town has multiple sources of water.
The main source, authorities said in a statement, is from Sundipora canal at the same village.
The statement said that the raw water from this source is filtered in 0.40 MGD water treatment plant at Kanikoote and then the water is supplied to Budgam town from three reservoirs at Budgam hill.
In addition, there are three different springs which are part of the system and augment the drinking water to Budgam town.
The filtration plant , statement said, has been constructed 25 years ago and the pipe system is also old.
“The filtration efficiency of the plant is at 70 percent and the revamping of this plant has been proposed under new program. Part of the pipe system was upgraded in the town under languishing scheme,” the statement said.
It added that a new filtration plant of 0.4 MGD capacity is being constructed and will take atleast five months to get completed.
The statement further said that the new WSS for Budgam urban has been proposed for rupees 40 crores under the new amrut 2.0 program of HuDD.
“DPR of the proposed scheme is under submission to HuDD.
