The government in Jammu and Kashmir has declared a revolutionary fee exemption policy for all eligible students covered under Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY).
The initiative allows students of Classes IX to XII to pursue their education without having the burden of incurring any cost in the form of school fees.
Education is one of the most effective weapons in the battle against poverty. However, for certain families from most underprivileged section of society, expense related to school fees becomes difficult to bear.
Such decisions from the government are an important step forward,” said the ministers. They added that by waiving the fees in one go, the government is removing the major impediments for sensitive students in the Union Territory.
The government said that the exemption will be limited to these classes in the government schools in Jammu & Kashmir, covering households that are in the ambit of AAY and having a valid AAY ration card or other document prescribed by the government.
In order to assess the weight of the impact, the government clarified regarding this action, stating that the financial implications will be calculated by the Directorates involved and communicated to the Administrative Department to submit for reimbursement to the finance department as soon as possible.
This daring policy is designed to help students from AAY families, which consist of the poorest of the poor and have AAY Ration Cards.
The government’s efforts to waive off tuition fees and fees for classes IX to XII in government schools and graduate programs means that deserving students do not have to drop out of schools or colleges for financial reasons.
This is a great step to ensure that equal opportunities are made available to the deserving persons. It motivates young minds to study without worrying about the funding of education.
By investing in these students’ education, the region is creating a better, skilled, prosperous, and promising future.
