Driver dies on spot, two students injured
Budgam, June 12: A driver was killed and two students were injured after a school bus belonging to IPTS School, Khansahib, skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge in the Neego Brenwar area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Shahid Ahmad Lone, son of Zahoor Ahmad Lone, a resident of Kechwari, Khansahib. Officials said the driver died on the spot after the bus met with the accident.
The incident occurred when the school bus reportedly lost control and veered off the road before falling into a gorge, triggering a rescue operation by locals and authorities.
Two students, identified as Tanzil-ul-Islam and Illaf Ahmad, both residents of Raiyar, Khansahib, sustained injuries in the accident.
The injured students were initially shifted to Community Health Centre Surasyar and later referred to Sub-District Hospital Chadoora. Owing to the nature of their injuries, both were subsequently shifted to SMHS Hospital Srinagar for specialized treatment.
Further details regarding the circumstances leading to the accident are awaited. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam Athar Aamir Khan and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Budgam Hariprasad K.K. visited SMHS Hospital Srinagar. They met the injured children and their attendants and reviewed the medical treatment being provided to them.
The attending doctors informed the DC and SSP that both children are stable and recovering well.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the hospital authorities to ensure the best possible medical care and all necessary assistance to the injured children during their recovery.
“The district administration is closely monitoring the situation,” DC Khan said, adding that all required medical facilities and support are being provided to the injured children and their families. [KNT]
