Kulgam, Jan 15: Deputy Inspector General of Police, South Kashmir Range, Javed Iqbal Matoo on Thursday chaired a joint security review meeting to assess the safety and security of tourist places falling within the jurisdiction of Kulgam district.
The meeting was held at Aharbal in Kulgam and focused on reviewing the prevailing security scenario with special emphasis on tourist destinations, particularly Aharbal Waterfall, in view of inclement weather conditions and increased visitor movement.
The meeting was attended by DIG CRPF South Kashmir Operations Range Kuldeep Singh Deswal, Brigadier 12 Sector Rashtriya Rifles, SSP Kulgam Anayat Ali Chowdhary, Commanding Officers of 2 Sector, 20 RR, 18 Battalion CRPF, ASP Kulgam, and other senior officers from the Police, Army, Intelligence agencies, and Central Armed Police Forces.
Officials said a detailed discussion was held on ensuring the safety and security of tourists and strengthening confidence building measures to provide a secure environment at all tourist locations. Officers were directed to remain vigilant and maintain close coordination to respond effectively to any emerging situation.
The meeting also reviewed security arrangements ahead of Republic Day 2026. Directions were issued to further strengthen the security grid, enhance inter agency coordination, and ensure effective deployment of forces across sensitive locations.
The chair stressed the importance of maintaining high alertness, proactive intelligence sharing, and coordinated responses to safeguard peace and public order in the district.
Authorities have appealed to locals and visitors to cooperate with security forces and promptly share any information regarding suspicious activities or movements that could disturb peace and tranquillity. (CNS)
