2 black bears captured

Anantnag, Nov 25: Wildlife authorities in South Kashmir have captured two black bears alive during coordinated operations in Kaharpora Soaf Kokernag and Andoo Nowgam Shangus following directions from the Wildlife Warden of Anantnag.
Officials said that the bear captured at Andoo Nowgam was the same animal involved in injuring two locals, a woman and a man, a day earlier.
Locals in the area expressed relief and appreciation for what they described as a timely and effective response from the Wildlife Department.
Teams from the Wildlife Control Room Achabal had been receiving continuous reports of bear movement across the region. In response, traps were strategically laid in both locations to ensure the safe capture of the animals without risking further harm to inhabitants or property.
Officials said both bears were subsequently released into their natural habitat after completion of the required procedures in accordance with wildlife safety protocols.
Officials reaffirmed that surveillance and response teams will continue to remain active in vulnerable areas to prevent human wildlife conflict. (CNS)
