Green future ahead

The Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh will make significant advancements in renewable energy, with projections calculating 62 percent of electricity generation coming from non-fossil fuels by 2034-35.

This isn’t just a numbers game; it reveals the strong will that will compel India to bring its energy addiction and polluted emissions under control, while also showing that it can lead us toward not just a cleaner future, but a greener future too.

With their abundant natural resources,  J&K and Ladakh are well positioned to spearhead India’s renewable energy transition, and with the necessary hydro, solar and wind resources, they will move to having energy independence with a small carbon footprint.

In addition to adhering to developmental and environmental sustainability, the transition toward 62% non-fossil fuel based electricity, will aid job creation for the impoverished, income-generation from clean energy for local people, and increase energy Security.

Decreasing fossil fuel dependence affords a steep decrease in greenhouse gas emissions, which ultimately will support Coalition for Green Energy and reduce any resentment toward India’s COP26 commitments and poor actions against climate change.

As aforementioned, the best thing that could happen comes in the form of infrastructure investments, community glue that attract green industries and sustained low energy pricing for remote and isolated regions of resources.

Not only do these renewable energy investments come with infrastructure improvements, and glue to attract green industries, that will also act as a stable source of cheap energy for the remote sectors.

The renewables will supply electricity to these now remote villages, provide better education, health and livelihoods. Solar-and-hydropower projects will create dignity in these communities, meaning that inclusive and sustainable betterment can be achieved.

The solar power program in Ladakh, combined with the hydro potential of J&K, could become an example of how clean energy will uplift societies.

The green energy transformation of J&K and Ladakh, shows tangible evidence of how environmental conservation can contribute to the economies success.

Like most of India and around the world, these regions are currently presenting evidence that a sustainable future is achievable.
