Srinagar, May 05: The slew of majors has been taken by the Jammu and Kashmir Lakes, Conservation and Management Authority to ensure proper and scientific management of the urban water bodies.
To ensure scientific weed harvesting and dredging of the lakes, cleaning, clearing and dredging of its water channels, it has been ordered that the scientists available with the Authority shall henceforth be recommending and monitoring the whole process on a real time basis, reads a statement.
“This step has been taken up by the J&K LCMA keeping in view the importance of the weed for the lake, its fauna and water quality. It is worth mentioning that the weed available in the lakes is not only important for effective disposal of micro and macro nutrients in the lake but also important for aquatic fauna. It is for this reason the LCMA has decided to put into service the scientists available with it,” it added.
By virtue of another order issued by the J&K LCMA, Naib Tehsildar has been designated as Estates Officer to manage and safeguard the tangible assets of the lake, especially the land acquired within and around the lake and also at Rakhi Earth Housing Colony for rehabilitation of Dal Dwellers, the statement said. “This step has been taken after noticing a series of violations and illegalities done by the allottees, and also some land illegally encroached and occupied by some members of the land mafia. Already the J&K LCMA has initiated a door-to-door survey of the allottees at Rakh-e-Arth Housing Colony to identify plots illegally occupied by some persons. All the complaints received by LCMA have already been handed over to the inspecting team.”
In another move, a Computer Programmer has been placed at the disposal of the Enforcement Officer of J&K LCMA for effective CCTV surveillance in and around the lake.
The CCTV surveillance will not only focus on illegal constructions, but also dumping of garbage in the lake and its water channels and also illegal ferrying of construction material in the area. These are just a few steps taken to arrest the mundane problems being faced by J&K LCMA.
The Authority is committed to the protection, preservation and scientific management of Dal, Nageen, Khushalsir, Gilsar, and different water channels in the best possible manner and seeks cooperation of the general public in this regard, reads the statement.
The LCMA requested the general public to desist from illegal constructions and apply on UBPS portal available on the website of J&K LCMA for any repair, renovation or construction.
