3 peddlers held in Kashmir: Police

Srinagar, April 08: In its sustained efforts to root out the menace of drugs from the society, Police in Anantnag on Tuesday said to have arrested two drug peddlers and seized significant quantities of contraband substances in two separate actions.
Acting on specific information, a checkpoint was established by a police team of Police Station Aishmuqam at Bashnaar. During the checking, one individual identified as Muzaffer Ahmed Shah son of Latief Shah, resident of Hardkichloo Aishmuqam was arrested, a police spokesman said.
During the search, approximately 10 Kgs, 270 grams of Charas Powder was recovered from his possession. Accordingly, police said a case under FIR number 11/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Aishmuqam and further investigation has been taken up.
In another action, a police party from Police Post Khanabal apprehended one person, identified as Khayam Ahmad Bhat son of Ab Gani resident of Batangoo, at Shohal Batangoo. Upon search, the team recovered 07 Kgs of poppy straw from his possession. Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of NDPS Act has been registered and investigation is underway.
J&K Police remained committed to its zero-tolerance policy against drug abuse and trafficking and urges the general public to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling or other anti-social activities in their areas. Together, we can build a drug-free society, the statement said.
Meanwhile, Police in Baramulla apprehended a drug peddler and seized a significant quantity of contraband substance in Boniyar area of district Baramulla.
During the intervening night of 07/08 April 2025, a police party deployed at Bernate Bala, Boniyar intercepted a suspicious individual identified as Manzoor Ahmad Mir son of Late Hafiz-Ullah Mir resident of Bernate, Boniyar. During the search, officers recovered 1.216 Kg of contraband substance, believed to be Brown Sugar and digital weighing machine. Subsequently, he was arrested.
Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 25/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Boniyar and investigation has been initiated to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the illegal narcotics network and to trace the source of the contraband.
J&K Police reiterated its commitment to continue the fight against the drug menace and urged the public to cooperate and share any information related to drug peddling in their areas.
