Diluted statehood unacceptable to Cong: Karra

Rajouri: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee President Tariq Hameed Karra Tuesday claimed that the central government plans to retain key departments if statehood is restored to the Union Territory. He said that the Congress party won’t accept amended statehood and will push for full restoration.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a public rally in Rajouri district to celebrate the 75th Constitution Day, Karra expressed concerns about the government’s intentions. “They want to retain vital departments, the backbone of any state, under their direct control,” he said adding that such statehood is unacceptable to Congress.”
Regarding Article 370, Karra referenced the Congress Working Committee’s 2019 resolution condemning the government’s “unilateral and undemocratic” action. “The CWC resolution is clear: we condemn the abrogation of Article 370 without consulting the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he stated.
Karra reiterated Congress’s commitment to restoring statehood, aligning with the Supreme Court’s verdict. “Our demand is straightforward: restore full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. We will continue our struggle until this goal is achieved.”
The Congress leader criticized the government’s approach, stating that retaining key departments would undermine the state’s autonomy. “We won’t accept diluted statehood. Our stand is realistic, based on the Supreme Court’s decision and the aspirations of the people.” (CNS)
