Amid ruckus, Assembly passes resolution on special status

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Wednesday passed a resolution demanding restoration of special status, constitutional guarantees besides working out constitutional mechanism for restoring these provisions.
The resolution was moved by Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Kumar Choudhary and seconded by Minister for Health, Education and Social Welfare, Sakeena Masood.
The resolution was put to voice vote by Speaker, Abdul Rahim Rather, and passed through voice vote.
The resolution reads, “This Legislative Assembly reaffirms the importance of special status and constitutional guarantees, which safeguarded the identity, culture and rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and expressed concern over their unilateral removal.”
It further reads, “This Assembly calls upon the Government of India to initiate dialogue with elected representatives of people of Jammu and Kashmir for restoration of special status, constitutional guarantees and to work out constitutional mechanisms for restoring these provisions.”
The resolution also reads that, “This Assembly emphasizes that any process for restoration must safeguard both national unity and the legitimate aspirations of people of Jammu and Kashmir.”
Earlier, the Leader of Opposition, Sunil Sharma, and other legislative members of his party objected to introduction of the resolution amid noises, leading to adjournment of the House by the Speaker till tomorrow (Thursday).
Minutes after the J&K Assembly passed the crucial resolution on restoration of Article 370, all the legislators of BJP stormed into the Well of the House accusing National Conference of running Pakistani and anti-national agenda.
“Not acceptable to us,” the BJP leaders shouted amid slogans, as per news agency KINS.
BJP leader Sham Lal Sharma stood on the table and stated: “From 1947, NC has been playing with the sentiments of people of J&K.” Refusing to come out the Well of the House, l of the House, the BJP MLAs raised slogan, Jahan Huway Balidan Mukherji, wo Kashmir hamara hai, desh drohi agenda nahi chalega, Aug 5 Zindabad, Anti-national agenda nahi chalega, Bharat Mata ki Jai, Jai Shri Ram.”
The BJP leaders continued to protest and refused to come out of the well. “This is treason and we will not allow it,” BJP leaders shouted.
Stressing that Article 370 is a part of history now, Sat Sharma, President, J&K BJP stated that it has been buried deep in the ground and no force can restore it now.
Sat Sharma was reacting to the passage of a resolution on Article 370 restoration amid protest by BJP leaders in the Jammu & Kashmir Assembly.
BJP strongly protested in all the organizational districts in which senior leaders of the party along with party activists burned the effigy of NC-Congress and said that these two parties had earlier ruined the living of J&K residents, looted the resources of the region, and now again tried to send the region into the time of blood bath by these mindless moves.
Sat Sharma, President, of J&K BJP accompanied by Ravinder Raina, former President, of J&K BJP, Kavinder Gupta, former Dy CM, Shamsher Singh Manhas, former MP and other senior leaders of BJP led the protests.
Sat Sharma said that NC is a party with 23 percent votes in J&K, so it does not represent the majority of the region and is also utterly ignoring the rights and the issues of Jammu residents. With its actions, along with Congress, NC is trying to disrupt the peace and prosperity of Jammu and Kashmir.
Sat Sharma also held senior NC leader and Dy CM Surinder Singh Choudhary as a culprit of Jammu region, who moved the resolution on Art 370 restoration in the Assembly and said that he ditched the mandate entrusted to him by the people of Jammu.
