4 Punjab residents die in Kulgam accident

LG Sinha expresses grief   
Kulgam: In a tragic incident on Saturday afternoon, four residents of Punjab lost their lives and three others sustained critical injuries in a road accident in the Nipora area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

An official informed the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the accident occurred when a vehicle travelling from Qazigund to Srinagar skidded off the road near the grid station in Nipora.

Immediately after the mishap, police, CRPF personnel, and locals rushed to the scene to assist the victims, transporting the injured to GMC Hospital Anantnag. “Unfortunately, four individuals were pronounced dead upon arrival, and the three critically injured were later shifted to SKIMS Soura for specialised treatment,” the official said.

The deceased have been identified as Sandeep Sharma, son of Jagmohan Sharma, resident of Chickpaie Mansa, Punjab; Jagdesh, son of Sirbjeet, resident of Attary District Moga, Punjab; Romi Sharma, son of Surjeet Singh, resident of Ferozpora, Punjab; and Gurmeet Singh, son of Darshan Singh, resident of Bigwal, Punjab.

The injured have been identified as Hirchand Singh, son of Mukhtar Singh, resident of Attary District Moga, Punjab; Kiran Paul (driver), son of Veer Singh, resident of Attary District Moga, Punjab; and Ashu, son of Vikram Singh, resident of Ferozpora, Punjab.

A police official said that an FIR was registered at Police Post Mir Bazar (Qazigund) and an investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed his deep sorrow over the tragic accident. In his condolence message, he said, “I am deeply grieved and saddened to learn about the loss of precious lives in an unfortunate road accident in Kulgam today. My sincere condolences to the bereaved families. Praying for the early recovery of the injured. I have directed the District Administration to provide all necessary assistance, as provided in rule, to the affected families.
