The history of clinical laboratories dates back to the early 19th century when physicians in Europe and the United States began experimenting with microscopy and chemical tests on patient samples. However, formal clinical laboratories started to emerge in the mid-1800s. Here are a few significant milestones during the evolution of the clinical laboratory industry.

 

1847: Clinical Microscopy
