Travel trade fraternity holds workshop on GST

Srinagar, Jan 29: Valley’s travel trade fraternity Monday organized a day-long workshop on Goods and Services Tax (GST)

The event saw a large number of travel agents and tour operators in attendance.

Additional Commissioner ShakeelMaqbool served as the keynote speaker, providing detailed information on GST alongside his team of officers.

The Additional Commissioner, while expressing appreciation for the organizers, urged the participants to be responsible taxpayers and encouraged collaboration with the sales tax department.

He emphasized that the government aims to support responsible businessmen rather than resorting to an enforcement mode and cracking down on tax evaders.

During the event, senior officials from the Sales Tax Department conducted a detailed PowerPoint presentation, explaining various ways in which travel agents and tour operators can work, charge GST on services, and file returns accordingly.

In the question-and-answer session that followed, officials clarified queries raised by the participants. The workshop was jointly organized by travel trade associations, including TASK, TAAK, AKTO, JKTA, PILTOF, TAAI-JK, ADTOI-JK, and TAFI-JK.
