3 get lifer in 2009 Handwara murder case

Srinagar: A local court in north Kashmir’s Handwara pronounced life sentences to three accused in a 2009 murder case in Handwara on Thursday.

Life imprisonment has been awarded to the accused persons, namely Bashir Ahmad Mir, son of Gani Mir; Habibullah Mir, son of Gani Mir; and ManzoorBeigh, son of HamzaBeigh, all residents of WadderBalaHandwara.

The Additional Sessions Judge in Handwara pronounced the judgment in case FIR No. 128/2009 under sections 147, 149, 323, 302 RPC of PS Handwara, resulting in the conviction of nine accused persons.

Raja, wife of ManzurBeigh, and Fehmeda, wife of Habib Mir, both residents of WaddarBalaHandwara, have been sentenced to three years of imprisonment on charges of offenses under 147, 148, 323, 302 RPC.

GhRasool Mir, son of Gani Mir; HabibBeigh, son of HamzaBeigh; MohdAfzalBeigh, son of Manzur Ahmad Beigh; and Mala, wife of GhulamRasool Mir, all residents of WaddarBalaHandwara, have been sentenced to two years of imprisonment on charges of offenses under 147, 149, 323 RPC.

The deceased accused, HamzaBeigh, son of Sultan Beigh, has posthumously been charged with offenses under Section 147, 149 of the RPC.

In a statement, the police said that the verdict is the culmination of an exhaustive and meticulous investigation conducted by the Investigating Officer, coupled with adherence to due legal processes.

“The conviction underscores the unwavering commitment of the judiciary and law enforcement to ensuring that justice is served,” the police said.

The accused individuals were found guilty of offenses, including rioting, unlawful assembly, causing hurt, and the grave charge of murder under the RPC.

The Court also recognized the dedication of the Investigating Officer and the collaborative efforts of all involved in the legal process. “We extend our gratitude to the community for their cooperation and trust in the legal system. This verdict reaffirms that justice, fairness, and accountability are paramount values upheld by the judicial system,” the police said.
